#1) Single on the Base model#2) I believe most people are using the stock plugs, which are Iridium if i'm not mistaken.

Stick with the stock plugs. If not, you could open yourself up to issues besides, you will not feel a difference with different plugs.

I had the understanding it was a single with variable valve timing..and the GT was the dual (hence the lift, like VTEC). I could be wrong though... Anyone with the definitive answer?

i don't think it would be possible to have 4 valves/cylinder and only a SOHC?any SOHC (i.e VW) are 2 valves per cyl.

Only exception I can think of off the top of my head was Hyundai's Alpha engine from a few years back - there was a SOHC 12-valve version...The Vibe definitely has two cams, the service manager commented about my noisy engine, pointing out that there is a lot going on inside that thing. And there is, when comparing the 1ZZ to a native GM powerplant, I suppose.

If that isn't confusing enough, a lot of 4 valve diesels are pushrod driven!

My brother's '95 Neon has a SOHC, 16-valve engine. I did a double-take upon seeing that; I was like, "That must be a f***d-up looking, really crowded camshaft," or something like that.

I would of thought the same, but I decided to try out some Denso Iridium Spark Plugs. This was before I put on my exhaust and intake and I could sure feel the difference. The engine seemed more torquey and seemed to help through 4000-5500 range in the rpm's.I did not notice a difference in MPG'S, but I have never been one to watch my MPG'S. I would say they are worth the money and I have not had any problems for over 9 months+++

Boshe Platinum series are dependable plugs as well. Ground wires will also helping by grounding at the most efficient points. Also, check out MSD Ignition (
http://www.msdignition.com/ ) for other electrical AM parts to fit your needs.
