Still using my original wipers!Today the Vibe was front and center at the local Starbucks! Sometimes it pays to get the best parking spot! Oversized Alberta trucks are nice, although there a dime-a-dozen here... Haven't seen another Red 2ndgen Vibe here!!!
Yesterday I threw on a new pair of blades. Bosch icons, I hope they will last a good while. Also reinstalled a couple window vents, both driver sides. Front was loose, all the tape was gone. The rear was reinstalled by the previous owner and whatever he used was oozing out.
I took the Vibe to the car wash (I'm hoping our outside faucet will be fixed this weekend) tonight and hand washed it. Then I brought it home, dried it, wiped down the door jambs, hatch, engine compartment, wheels and wheel wells and shined up the tires. It's all ready for our Chicagoland mini-meet tomorrow .

I hand washed CrabbyVibe and polished a few scratches out (as best I could). TIL: Unpolished tires look black and fine on most car colors, but look gray and a little gross on Abyss Vibes. So I polished up my rubber with Meguiars Hot Shine. Ooowee! Does CrabbyVibe ever look clean! Now if the sun will just peek out I can repair my windshield.
I replaced my old spark plugs because I did not know the age, I'm not sure how Iridium plugs should look after ~71k, but these look rough to be considering the interval is 120k...oddly enough, I checked the gaps and they are right around 0.045ishAnyone good at reading 'plugs' want to chime in? How's my car look?
I'm not an expert, but #1 & 2 look good to me. That hint of white/gray powder is just what you want to see.#3 seems to have a bit of burnt oil on it, probably nothing to worry too much about. And #4 is just behind that, in between the #2 and #3.Just my .02.BTW: I hope you put a good layer of Anti-Seize on the threads of the new plugs? Steel threads in aluminum needs something to lubricate it and keep the dissimilar metals from becoming one... if you ever want to get them apart.I've recently heard that a dipping in Maalox works as well, if not better than Anti-Seize.

Well, I had a small incident yesterday, and now I need to do some major touch-up to the paint on my rear bumper where the bolts to someones license plate hit my rear bumper. Everything is fine, I was actually off the brakes and accelerating when contact was made, their car is fine, I'm fine, Vib just has a bruise. I now understand why those of you with unpainted cladding love it so much.

I sure did use anti-seize! Thanks for the analysis...I did some 'googling' as well and have to say that the plugs look alright, I'm a bit curious how long they were in the car tho...
Replaced the plugs and pcv today, both looked almost too good to be out of a car with 113k on it.The plugs only had 9k on them and still looked good, but I figure that since the car is used for very short trips it's worth the thirty bucks to change them out once a year. Thirty bucks and thirty minutes is pretty cheap piece of mind. The PCV still looked like brand new with 11k on it. I went ahead and stuck the new one in, but I saved the old one to have as a spare and to remind me that it might be worth checking it next time before I buy another one. But again, for six bucks it's cheap piece of mind.

No way to tell, since you didn't install them and obviously you don't have good records from the previous owner. Though w/only 71k, they were probably OE. Thinking further about it, cyl #4 may be running a bit rich. It's black but not shiny. Not much you can do for one cyl, and not much to worry about either. Well it is your car, but why throw good money away on parts the car doesn't need and that will not improve either performance or economy?Iridium plugs should easily go 60-75k, and most will do 100k w/no issues. And, what's a PVC valve? They never go bad. A little carb cleaner is all I have ever done to those on my cars, just to clean them out.

They never go bad. A little carb cleaner is all I have ever done to those on my cars, just to clean them out. Don't know what a PVC valve is either. I have drain valves on my sprinkler system that are glued onto the pvc pipe, guess those could count maybe.Last year I think I got a few tanks of bad gas at the station I usually fill up at. I changed stations for the next couple months, but performance and fuel economy were still suffering. So I changed plugs in the spring and decided that from then on it's something I'd do every spring, whether they need it or not. I guess I could pull them and look, and then change them if I need to. But then if I have them out anyway, why not just go ahead and stick new ones in while I'm at it? I've been chasing a gas mileage problem on the Vibe that I'm pretty sure has a lot more to do with the wife's right foot and driving style than anything else, but I have to eliminate all the other potential issues or it's not worth even discussing. I think I'm making progress, at least she doesn't go through brake pads like she was on her minivan anyway.
After chasing some problems of my own on that front, I'd say check the OCV valve filter and clean/replace it (less than $10) or check your MAF sensor. For me, it was the MAF. A $7 can of MAF cleaner and about a half-hour of waiting, and the thing was perfectly clean! Problem solved. Also, make sure tire pressure is correct, and overuse of the air conditioner can really hurt MPGs.

And I check my tire pressure roughly every other Saturday morning. I have Goodyear Triple Treds which I know costs me a little bit in mileage, but I keep them at 36 cold. We're at 6000 ft, trees and bushes aren't even starting to bud here. Trust me, we don't use the A/C all that much here.

Replaced the front brake pads (was too easy) and put my 'other' winter wheels back on, so i can burn off the remaining rubber and switch the tires to summer tires.

well, 2 days ago I had about a 3 foot snow pile in my front yard, and today it is completely gone, so yea I'm lovin the nicer weather. I prefer this vs -40 or even +35. 15-20 is perfect!
Well yesterday I ran down the battery in the Vibe while listening to music so I had to jump start it with the Trans AM... The Vibe has jump started the Trans AM many many times so I guess fair is fair.

Applejuice and I ate lunch while sitting in the trunks with our hatchs open these past two days. Since we had testing, we also had open lunch. Thus, we ate in the parking lot at our cars.
12 seconds ago... spring has sprung, as it beI hear Calgary got it worse... good thing I have nothing to do today as all the snowplows in the city seem to have been put away...
(Re-)installed six plastic fasteners today. The first one went into the CHMSL housing on the liftgate. While I was at the auto parts store, to get a package of them, I remembered that I needed 'a couple' to put things back in place under the front fascia. When I started putting those in, I realized that five (out of a possible 6 maybe?) were missing. I knew I popped one or two of them out when I went offroading into a farm field a few months ago on a very icy Saturday morning. After I pulled the dry weeds out, the pieces easily went back into place. Had I realized how many were missing, I wouldn't have waited so long! Nothing was dragging or making noise, but I've probably driven 4500 miles since then.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
I didn't do it with my Vibe, but I did it with Applejuice's. We decided to prank his brother, since Applejuice picks his brother up from school. He hid in the trunk and I took his spot. His brother was confused and such, I tried to play it all as if nothing were wrong. Then I didn't open the hatch for AJ (once we had been found out) so he tiltlted forward the seats and climbed in the rear, so I quickly turned the child lock on, and he was stuck back there. It was plenty of fun for us!
Since I've noticed mine has been idling a little rough lately and reading up on threads that concern such a situation, I've done the following the past 2 days:Replaced spark plugs with NGK Iridium IXReplaced PCV valveReplaced intake manifold gasket (w/orange one). Main reason I did this was because I was getting P0133 and P0171 codes if it sat out in the could for a while, just like the TSB described.I'm also going to replace the OCV filter, but the dealer didn't have one in stock, should be here on Tuesday.Honestly I haven't noticed a decrease in the idle "roughness". It does drive fine. I can watch the engine at idle and it noticeably shakes (more so than normal, I know it's going to move a little bit). I can even feel the vibration through the pedals and steering wheel. I guess my next step is to replace the O2 sensor. If that doesn't help...I suppose I'm out of options other than having the dealer look at it.
