If I could have fit one of the bigger boys into my budget I probably would have done it. But for now, I'll putter around on my little "thumper" for a bit and just enjoy being back on two wheels. Afterall isn't that what it's all about?
Ha! I know a few people on here who would attack you for such statements. I have nothing against scooters for some people. I could just never get into them. I want something I can throw into a corner and know I'm not going to tip over. I would say I also wanted something that can get out of its own way but the truth is, I know some scooters that would be able to spank the heck out of the Buell.

Hey Millster...did you have any problems with your Ninja 250?I am seriously considering buying one soon. I'm not too sure if I want the 250 or the 500R. I've heard that the 250 seriously lacks in power especially for highway/interstate driving. Here is a cute picture of me and my daughter on the 250. My wife took the pic with her phone and suprisingly it turned out great. This 250 is identical to Millster's old one

i rode my ex gf's ninja 250 and i was so happy when i got my bike back from the shop which is a 600cc........i think it would be ok if your going around a small town but besides that the power isnt there but its not surprising....it is a 250cc haha
They're fantastic for around town riding, I'll start there. The power is surprising for a 250, really but it only comes in when you get the revs up. Under 6000, she feels a little gutless. Break-in was the longest 500 miles of my life. Handling is stellar but I will say that being as light as it is, it started getting a little spooky over 80MPH. It will run out on the highway. In sixth, at 80 that little engine will really get to spinning though and that can get tiresome. The compression of the engine lets it shed revs fast and you'll find your throttle hand getting a little tired trying to hold it up there if you have a long trip. You shift a lot. It's geared short for maximum power out of that little engine so you're always on the clutch. If you don't mind that it's not a real problem.Other than that the only real issue I had is that it is one COLD blooded little mother. I had to choke the crap out of the carbs to get it to stay running in the mornings. I doubt in your area you'll have much trouble with that. I loved that little bike, really enjoyed tooling around town on it. It can be a lot of fun once you get it broken in and can "give it the spurs". Honestly I can think of very few negatives about it. But if you're thinking you'll be doing a lot on the highway I would consider the 500 over the 250. The 250 will do short jaunts on the highway but it's not a cruiser.
Thanks for the info...after calling around for insurance quotes...there is no way in hell I am gonna buy a Ninja or any kind of sport bike. I have been quoted between 2K & 3K a year for coverage. On the other hand, i found that the Honda Rebel (CMX250C) is only $285.90 per year which breaks down to nearly $24 a month for full coverage. So I think I may go check out this bike instead. My wife just sent me a new picture of my daughter and I on the ninja.

Holy crap! My insurance on mine was nowhere near that much!Your daughter looked like she enjoyed it though.Beware the Rebel. I don't know how tall you are, but if you're much over 5'10" get used to riding from the passenger seat.
I believe it is an Arizona thing. There are a ton of Motorcycle involved crashes here on a regular basis and most of the time its the teenagers showing off on their Ninjas. I Insure my Highlander and my apartment through American Family, and they refuse to allow coverage for such a high risk cycle or "Crotch-Rocket" as the agent called them. She said that if they did insure them then it would be really expensive. I checked with Geico and they do cover them but the premium was $2800 a year regardless of the size of Ninja. Also...I have never owned or ridden a motorcycle before so that probably kills me too. I hope to soon though. As soon as I have a little extra spending money I am going to take a Beginner Riders Course. After that all I'll have to do is buy a bike.

Take a Harley Davidson Rider's Edge course and you may well end up buying the bike I just bought. The little Buell is what they use for those courses. Of course you'd still be stuck with the "Crotch-Rocket" issue since it's classed as a "Naked Sport Bike" (a sport bike without the plastic fairings).I'll really disgust you guys and say that my insurance is only $20 a month and only during the riding season, then the policy goes into suspend. So for me, May to September. Of course that was on the Ninja. I don't know what it'll be on the Buell. I don't carry full coverage, though since I didn't finance. Just liability in case I smack someone else. Montana law doesn't actually REQUIRE you to insure a bike at all.
2005 Suzuki 650 V-Strom, my other commuter vehicle.Parked at the 120 year old Verde Flats graveyard located next to an old Gold Mine (The Vulture mine). One of the nice things about this bike is that you can take it down dirt roads pretty easy.

Scraped the frost off the windshield and hit the road. 27F this morning. Thank God for air-cooled engines in weather like this. I had a hard time getting my old Ninja to start and run in 50 degree weather. The Buell fired up on the the third time over and ran like a top all the way to work.

Well, let's just say it lives up to its name. It's not the fastest bike on the face of the Earth but it handles great, gets pretty good mileage and with a good drill bit, a dremel and some time, you can make it sound pretty hot too. Seriously though, I love the little thing. Now the list of issues. Mine is a 2001 and it's got some miles on it. The primary drive needs pretty constant attention to keep it adjusted or you end up with shifting problems. It's a Harley Sportster tranny so it has the typical false neutral between first and second (either on the up OR the down-shift) and since the little 500cc single-popper mill is a rubber-mounted, stressed member of the frame it kinda shakes the crap out of you. In my eyes, that's all part of the fun. I truly do just adore this little bike. It'll smoke the tire in first, bark it into second if you don't use the clutch and lift the front wheel on command. Doesn't have the horsepower to go fast, but it's got the torque to put on a good show. All said, I'd highly recommend the little things. If you want a fun, quirky bike that's a real head-turner that'd be the one for you.
yeah there's an o3 and an o5 for sale in the area...just gotta get the funds...not on a hunt for a crotch rocket... the blast just seems right for the present situation. thanx for the info

Awesome! I'd lean toward the '05 if I were you. They've made some changes to the engine over the years and they're a little stronger. Mine starts to clatter after a while of riding because the oil pump is a little weak and starves the lifters just a bit. I've got the parts on order, but why set yourself up for repairs if you don't have to. Do keep in mind too that this IS a pushrod engine on this bike. They chatter quite a bit more than the similar Japanese bikes. Yeah, I'd say this would be a great bike. Don't know if you've had a chance to sit on one yet or not, but they sit just like a cruiser. They hold you very upright. Not an aggressive position at all.

Nice Buell dude! I would take off the windshield though OR get a nice sleek smaller one so it looks more stream lined That is an awesome looking bike sir! I kinda wish I would have bought the '08 Lightening 1200 How many miles did you put on so far?
I'm glad I revived this thread back on 02/03/08 after a nearly 3 year hiatus. Here's a photo of my schweet little 1985 Honda CB125s. While it's fun to ride and I get 67 mpg, my attraction to this bike is a bit more sentimental having spent many years teaching folks to ride on these bikes in MSF courses.

Anyway, the windshield has come off. Partly because it had rattled a few of the screws out and partly because I realized it was doing no good whatsoever. It actually made the wind more turbulent around my ears than it is without anything at all. So now it's got the street-fighter look going. So far, I've logged about 1500 miles on it. It's getting close to time to change the drive belt out on it though. Better start looking for one. The local shop doesn't keep many Blast parts in stock.Quote, originally posted by PlatinumVibe08 »I'm glad I revived this thread back on 02/03/08 after a nearly 3 year hiatus. Now that is one sharp little bike! I don't think I've seen a CB125 in that kind of condition in a long time! The little things ARE a blast to ride even if they aren't the fastest things on two wheels. Nothing like single-cylinder bikes for quirky good times.

The last picture of my 900rr. Was hit when a semi merged into my lane last week, hitting me and the bike. She's totaled out, low-sided on the interstate at 65 mph. She was a tough little trooper, kept me in one piece, and once we got it back upright and getting it in back in neutral(missing most of the shifter and clutch lever was bent up), and with a little coaxing she fired back up. Picture doesn't look bad, but the whole left side is toasted, tank, farings, frame are all pretty tore up. RIP little 900.
Quote, originally posted by Kamikaze »Glad you are ok, sorry bout the bike... The 900RR is one of my all time favorites. Going to get another bike to replace? Thanks, not for a little bit, but after I was informed by my GF (Kami BTW) of 5 yrs, that "you'll never have a bike again!" and once she settled down, that she wants another one too, but maybe a cruiser next time. Been putting off some things around the house, so might take care of those first and let everyone settle down about it before I buy another one.
Had the Buell out for a brief ride last night, myself. Had a little break in the snow so I figured I'd get her fired up and going again. Something's up with the carb though and she's not running happily at the moment. Sputtering and backfiring quite a bit. That makes it really fun when you're running basically straight-piped. It's one noisy SOB.
ive had mine out a few times this month too, tomorrow and wed are suppose to be really nice and im on vacation from school and work till sat ......just put on my new tinted windscreen too
I've had my Duc out a few times already but I don't have health insurance so I need to get AT LEAST emergency coverage before I really start to ride Unfortunately I am real broke so I'm kind of worried that I wont be getting any soon. I did get to try out my new clip on handlebars with out my jacket and it feels great. Can't wait til it's consistently warm!
