Recirc button

Post by gregschell »

I am looking for a replacement "AC Heater Control Switch Panel" (Rock Auto has it listed with that name). The electric actuator that pulls and pushes on the cable for recirc will not hold the end of the cable. It was damaged during radio removal. Can anyone assist in finding a replacement or solution.

2006 Pontiac Vibe (base)

Thank you.

Welcome to genvibe!

There is a mechanical cable that connects the air flow direction switch to the AC/Recirc switch. When the air flow direction switch is moved to either full or half defrost (windshield), it moves the mechanical cable and pops the recirc switch into fresh air. The purpose is that defrosting the windshield works a lot better with fresh air than with recirculated air. After you direct air to the windshield, you can then still select recirc if you want to for some reason.

In my opinion, this is of little or no value. I drove a vibe for many years with that cable disconnected and never had any issues, but then again, I almost never used recirc. So I'd say save a few bucks and just leave it disconnected.

However, if you want to restore it, then which part is the one you want to replace? Is it the AC/Recirc switch in the radio trim panel, or the back of the fan speed/air flow direction/temperature control block? If its the fan /direction/temp panel, then that thing is a real PITA to swap, I mean true misery, (unless you have the magic to deal with the way the air flow direction and the temp blend door mechanical cables are attached.) If the latter, then more value to just leaving the cable disconnected.

Did you replace the radio, and if so what did you replace it with?

Thanks for the reply.
I did not replace the radio yet and I am open to suggestions on make and model. Something up to date with nav and phone etc.
