Window tint or intake

Post by Kevzaz »

I want to get one of these done. But I don't have money for both. Which should I do?

tough decision. i have and love both. but i think the tint is something you will appreciate more once you have it. looks nicer, keeps the interior cooler and reduces glare when driving. every time i drive the neon that has no tint i feel like im blinded by the sun. intake is cool too but wont make you really be any faster just sound and feel that way in your head. i think tint over rules intake in this situation. for me anyways because i think of it from a comfort point of view.

Time to find out legal limits in PA and where to get it done...

+1 for tint. Believe it or not, I only have 54% all around, but it's made all the difference. I actually wish I would have done my windshield, too, but I wussed out. The 54% tint is that light. Just a hint of tint...

Definately tint... but be sure to check out the PENNDOT website, or your local State Police station for the limits of what you can run.Example: I think it's Maine that only allows up to a 50% and only on the back windows? I know Pa is rather strict about the limitations of tint. Oh, you might get away w/it for a while but not forever, I'm sure.Because many cops have been caught offguard (shot) by driver's/passenger's of cars sporting very deep (15-25%) or limo (5%) tint, most states have made that illegal for all but the backlight, and the fines can cost a lot more than the tint install, so it ain't worth it Bro. Also, be sure the tint shop can provide the ANSI sticker and that it is place between the glass and the tint wherever PA requires it to be.

I like the tint idea but I'm from NY and its rediculous here. I had 2.5% on my truck and never had any issues. I had 5% on my grand am and got 3 tickets.... It all depends on who sees you.

With the heat waves we've been having these past few years, along with the somewhat weak a/c system, tint may be a nice idea, but I wouldn't go too dark for my purposes. (I drove a rental in Phoenix that had a nice amount of tint on it, but i wasn't thrilled. Plus I do a lot of night driving, and visibility would be grand!)How much do tint jobs generally run you guys?Edit: Here's a website, found in another post on this forum, about state tint laws. I must scratch my head about PA's law, though, because I thought SUVs and Vans could have the rear and back side windows tinted.http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/

In the town neighboring the town that neighbors my town (said that way to be confusing ) there is a cop who is, as described by a local officer: a (tint) Nazi. 70% of the tint ticket turned in to the Savage (my town) PD are from this ONE guy. My dad had 35% on his truck all around except the windshield, now it's just on the rears. He even got a prescription for it, but the cop wouldn't allow it. So he ripped it off the front windows. I almost hate to tell you that the cop drives a Matrix. In Minnesota the law is max 50% all around, no tint stripe on the windshield. I'm getting 50% on the front once I can afford it, but I could go darker in the back since the title holder has a prescription The guy who did my dads truck quote me $225. I barely believe that, so I want to shop around.

On my grand am I had 5% all the way around. My gf at the time was driving home from work late one night and got pulled over. The Rochester officer said we can take off the front tints and everything is fine. So we took off the fronts. The ticket was thrown out. 1 week later in Orchard Park I was pulled over again now for the backs. The cop got out his little tint meter and measured my tints. HE actually scratched the tint which pissed me off. But still I got out of that ticket as well but still I got 2 tickets in a week for tints.

Tint unless you plan to put it on the track. The speed limits are the same whether you have CAI or not.Tint tickets are cheaper than speed tickets and don't put points on your license which costs you in higher insurance premiums.

It's not necessary, and there are rules on vehicles and roads for a reason...obey them...PERIOD! And vehicles are made to a specific standard that conform to all the rules/regulations set. We need people like this on this forum. You rock beemerphile1!

Just because you have an intake doesn't mean you need to speed. It just means you can get to the speed limit faster :-)

Although I have and love both "mods", I would have to agree with everyone else and say tint. It was the first thing I did to my Vibe (just a couple weeks after I got it) and I couldn't be happier with it. I have 35% all around. For the first 6 months or so it was illegal here in Illinois, but I never got pulled over for it. Than in October of 2009, 35% all around became a legal combination so now I really don't have to worry about getting pulled over. I just had the windows on my mom's Vibe tinted 35% all around this past Monday. She never wanted tinted windows until she rode in mine for a while and needless to say, now she loves that her Vibe is tinted.Definitely make the intake a priority after the tint though, since if you drive conservatively, you will actually see a slight increase in your gas mileage .

Another vote for a good quality tint. The previous owner of mine did the tint, and I did the intake. The tint is almost a "necessity," the intake is just fun!

Huge deal vs the $280-ish I paid here in the NW. Make sure you get a quality tint film though and a lifetime warranty, not sure if you will for that price.
