Adding Fog Lights to 09-10 Vibe. DON'T BUY A NEW SWITCH!

Post by BaseWhiteVibe »

Alrights folks as many of you may know from the facebook page, I have decided to add a fog lights to my car. Aside from the typical parts needed for this installation such as the Fog Lights, Fog Light Covers and Resistor you need you change out the turn signal stalk........ well no you really don't have to.

I ended up purchasing an assembly on ebay for $40 which is cool because I can just keep everything stock. BUT for curiosities sake I ended up running a continuity test (yes I know a Mechanical Engineer with a volt meter is a scary thought!) and I confirmed the pins where the fog light switch powers up! SO for the people that would like to save a few dollars and just use a fog switch on your dash (WHICH IS INCLUDED IN MANY KITS ON EBAY!) here is what you do:

1. On the Fog Light version you will find that there is a wire that runs to the front of the assembly, yet on the base it does not
2. In the connector of the turn signal assembly you will see on the top right row of the connector there are three pins in the upper right corner (I confirmed this in the fog light version but have not taken my column cover off yet so I don't know if they exist in the base assembly), those correspond to the three on the connector of the little wire that comes from the turn signal stock in the fog light assembly. The left pin corresponds to the left wire, the middle pin corresponds to the middle wire and the right pin corresponds to the right wire (it isn't used)
3. Check your harness for those three wires and JACKPOT!

SO that being said, I would suggest that you hook up your new fog lights to the existing vehicle harness. Then proceed to install the relay (behind the dash). Finally I would suggest that you remove the lower column cover and follow the wiring. The harness on the vehicle will already have the wiring running to the connector even if the base assembly does not have have pins in the connector. Simply splice in there and off you go!

Once again I can not post pictures so I would suggest you go on the Facebook page and see the pictures for yourself

He is talking about the red and white wire at the molex connector at the turn signal switch. on a picture with a "PI" written on it.
I did what the instruction said and brought a used toyota relay and a cheapo ebay camry fog lights . without cutting any cable ( beside create the self made jumper wire), I permanently jumper red and white wire. Fog turn on with lo beam.

I heard the 09-2010 vibe/corolla , even the base model does has fog pre wired . The 2011+corolla does not have the prewired due to running change/ cost cutting.
