Re: who is still hanging out on genvibe in 2024?

Whelp, didn't make it to 15 years with the Vibe. Was driving past the Chevy dealer and saw a 2025 Crimson Trax displayed. :o :D sub $25K nicely appointed with safety features and they gave me 3500 for a 15 year old car that I only paid 15K for in the first place. Am grateful for the conversa...

Re: who is still hanging out on genvibe in 2024?

Checking in about once a month in case I need to do repairs. Also not on Zuckerbook. Hoping to get one more year out of my '09 to get past 15 years. Paint job is getting trashed from stone chips on the hood, and sandblasted on windy days (Lowcountry SC - sandy soil & beaches).

Re: Troubleshooting noisy/knocking engine

Just to wrap this thread up - it was bad bearings on the alternator allowing the pulley to vibrate. Replaced alternator & belt and sounds brand new. :)

Re: Headlights & ALC, DRL

I replaced my headlight assemblies earlier this year as my youngest was going to use the Vibe for work that would go into the evening & I wanted the best visibility for them. They work well, and certainly make the car look better, IMO. This https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078XHRKNP/ref=ppx_yo...

Rattle seems to be coming from the alternator or close by.

Re: Troubleshooting noisy/knocking engine

Loose heat shield vs something engine related makes sense as my power/mpg haven't suffered. I'll try to track it down during daylight this weekend. Thanks!

Re: Troubleshooting noisy/knocking engine

Thanks for the replies. The oil level was last checked about 6 months before, and had last been changed 1 year (~5000 miles) before . Coolant looks fine. I recorded the engine sound at idle from within the cabin & have uploaded it. https://imgur.com/BlsVNix . I'm in Charleston, SC so we don't wo...

Troubleshooting noisy/knocking engine

Hi all, original owner of a 2009 Base Vibe, 1.8L engine. 70K miles, mainly in-city driving, with a 25 mile/65mph run a couple of times/month. Last month, my oldest got back from taking it on a camping trip, and when I went to start it up, I was surprised at the engine producing more noise than I'm u...

Re: Pre Vibe were you a Toyota or GM person? (Or neither?)

Pre-Vibe drove an Oldsmobile. (Expert level at investing in obsolete brands :D ). Next vehicle I'll be looking at will be in the Kia Niro EV type of compact (electric?) SUV. (still 2-3 years away).

Lava, thanks for posting this link! Yours was the first one of 6 mass media stories that I read which actually had some reference to details! There is an embedded link in the USA Today story to an AutoNews story: http://www.autonews.com/article/20140409/COPY01/304099971/toyota-recalls-more-than-6-mi...

I saw the notice last week on the Pontiac.com website to call their Toll Free number. The gentleman who took my call stated that GM had not received either information nor parts from Toyota at that time.

I also went looking when I saw the article about the $7K in dealer incentives for Pontiacs & Saturns. Edmunds.com still allows you to search for them. It shows only 7 available within 500 miles the mid-atlantic

Re: Vibe OnStar renewal fee - negotiable? (jake75)

Yes, like everything these days, it is negotiable. Here's a couple of paths - 1st one was mine on our other GM vehicle (in July) -Used the 1-877-616-0577 number from my email renewal notice. Asked for the Safe & Sound $148/yr renewal fee that I've seen other people on my on-line forum get. (You ...

Coasting

Hi, new owner of a '09 1.8L automatic. When I drive on my 300 mile business trips, I'm trying to optimize my mileage. Comparing my Vibe's coasting/gliding ability to my old '98 Olds Intrigue. The Vibe seems to have a great deal less distance capability. Is there any technique I can use to lessen what...
