Re: (n2ho)

Just be careful with the clips so they don't snap off!Otherwise, piece of cake if you're mechanically inclined and have patience.-Eric

Vibe OEM speakers same as Matrix?

We have a 2004 AWD w/6 speaker audio system.Right front door is out as well as left rear door. Her younger brother had vehicle before and most likely over drove them.I'm looking to replace with stock speakers for simplicity - did high-end audio installation when I was younger and am looking for a si...

Re: 04 AWD - Terrible tire wear & squirrely in bad weather - related? (llebcire)

Believe I found the problem today @ Sears...the place that originally did the alignment doesn't seem to want to help with the problem, but they haven't seen these printouts yet.Vehicle was obviously mis-aligned - every wheel is off!I found out after our recent blizzard that this is almost un-driveab...

Re: 04 AWD - Terrible tire wear & squirrely in bad weather - related? (keithvibe)

Tires are actually wearing evenly across all four - makes me believe it's an alignment issue. As for price, they weren't cheap - around $160/tire plus mount & balance.I can see the tires having less than stellar reviews but worn in 15k miles isn't the tire's fault.

Re: 04 AWD - Terrible tire wear & squirrely in bad weather - related? (Caretaker)

Looks like I'll get involved with the alignment...I'll also see if I can find a printout.2,000 miles after the new tires I went back to the place that did the alignment complaining as the tires were visibly feathering...they tried to tell me the suspension was most likely worn due to the mileage on ...

Re: 04 AWD - Terrible tire wear & squirrely in bad weather - related? (star_deceiver)

Tires get mixed reviews....however, this is a tremendous amount of wear for under 10k miles.AWD's can't be that bad on tires! When we bought the car from her parents @ 50k, it was on it's 2nd set of tires that were wasted by 70k (Continentals).-Eric

04 AWD - Terrible tire wear & squirrely in bad weather - related?

2004 Vibe AWDBeen in family since new - no accidents.81k miles. At 71k had a 4 wheel alignment done.At 73,500 set of new Michelin Energy MXV4S8's.At 81k tires are half shot...had them rotated @ 79k and were at 5/32.I've been driving this car since April 09 and it is absolutely the scariest vehicle I'...

Re: (ragingfish)

Thanks for the response!I did it my way without any problems but if that's the factory's suggestion then I should have gone that route.Based on your pictures and tutorial, I was able to get the top pad out in 35 minutes! Toughest part was getting the front clips inserted on the re-install - Nice job...

Re: Strange Shimmy @ speed - comes and goes? (prathman)

Took the Vibe to the dealer on Friday - and low and behold it was the balance!Tech took the vehicle out to confirm our complaint, and was ready to start diagnosing drivetrain or possibly a rotor that was hanging when he noticed the weights were improperly installed inside the wheels (stick on).Re-ba...

Alright - here's a silly question:I understand removing the fuse for the SRS before disconnecting it, but why is this needed if the battery will be disconnected? Why couldn't I just remove the negative battery cable and wait 3-5 minutes for the back up capacitor to discharge? Is this suggested as an a...

Re: HOW TO: 3RD BRAKE LIGHT OVERLAY INSIDE MOUNT (SoCal_CJ)

FYI-You may want to add a disclaimer to this that people check with their local authorities before doing this regarding legality and then make a decision. To the best of my knowledge, it is illegal to obstruct any brake lamps - creative car dealers used to do this with their logos as an overlay on th...

Strange Shimmy @ speed - comes and goes?

My wife has a 2004 Vibe AWD w/68k miles. She's noticed a shimmy in the steering wheel for quite a while, so I started with the obvious:Rotated and balanced, 4 wheel alignment - problem exactly the same. This does have new rotors (@ 60k) and the problem existed before them. I don't have any vibration w...
