Re: My First Vibe

I do agree that the Vibe has a very aggressive throttle...you need good control to not snap your passengers heads back on acceleration. Sounds crazy with a small, low powered motor but it is definitely an aggressive throttle.

or just buy a cheap Harbor Freight 1/2" torque wrench (and 1/2" sockets) and do it as you described.

Re: 2006 Vibe - Struts/Shocks Cost?

go to Rock Auto online or any online auto parts site and see what front and rear struts cost for the car....to at least get an idea on parts. PO of my car had all 4 struts done in '21...shop bought strut assembly from Advanced Auto, marked up parts 100% and charged $564 labor for a grand total of ar...

that's who I ordered my vvt solenoid, camshaft position and crank position sensor o rings from! Easy, inexpensive and they worked great (still haven't installed crank sensor o ring, yet..)

Re: Epic Fail head unit install

good point about the Nav...we are also trying to get my girls to actually look up and pay attention when they are in a car to know where they are, where they are going and the name of the streets. What specific model Pioneer radio did you get? (edit - read your post up above, thanks for listing the ...

Re: Epic Fail head unit install

looks great! Crutchfield will also be my go to (happy to pay a little more for the service and support)..I promised my girls that I would replace the radio in the Vibe (dead display, like all of them). even though my 15 year old thinks the CD player is retro cool, I'll get a more modern unit that th...

Re: oil leak dye detector question=-

from my maintenance spreadsheet:

vvt solenoid o ring # G1917-32010 (or JIS P14), crank sensor o ring is same part #!

Good luck with your oil leaks, following your saga on the TN site, too.

Re: 2005 needs lug nuts=-

I also preemptively bought the Amazon lug nuts that SSizler linked to, assuming mine were going to be bad ('06 base, alloys with 215K). Turns out my lug nuts are fine...which was very surprising. The ones from Amazon look to be decent quality, even though they are only about $1 each. I haven't insta...

Re: Door lock key problems

nice solution! I may have to look into something like this. My (original) key only works in ignition, won't work in the door or hatch locks. It is pretty worn and slightly bent.

Re: oil dipstick tube o ring

not your fault! It's what the parts diagram showed. Easy job to do when the intake manifold is removed...but sure hope it doesn't leak, again. It would require removing (again) the manifold.

Re: oil dipstick tube o ring

wanted to provide an update. The part I ordered 90301-12018 was not the correct part, it was too large. I'll post a pic of the new part and old o ring. New part is the larger ring on top. It sure looked like the correct part in the exploded parts view. (?) I ended up using an o ring from a collectio...

Re: Diagnosing idle vibrations

it seems like the engine mounts go bad on these, eventually. Not sure if this is your problem but have you looked closely at your mounts for deterioration and tears in the rubber? You raise a good question about the vibration...is it engine mount related or engine related (plugs, coils, vacuum leaks...

Daisy - sounds like you're very well equipped to teach your son about vehicle maintenance! Sounds like we have similar ideas about kids and their first cars. I think I'm more excited about the Vibe than anyone else in my family. My wife hasn't even driven the Vibe and probably never will. Jealous of...

Re: oil dipstick tube o ring

That's it!! Thank you! 90301-12018 called Engine Oil Dipstick Tube Seal.

I'm planning on changing that when I also have my intake off for the new intake gasket for easier access.

Re: oil dipstick tube o ring

thank you for finding that. Are you sure that is for where the tube enters the block as opposed to the o ring that is on the actual dipstick? I have searched a bunch and the description always seems to leave some room for interpretation (?) I am used to looking at exploded parts views on my motorcyc...

oil dipstick tube o ring

Hey, all, I am slowly assembling all the various gaskets and o rings to seal up the numerous oil leaks (seeps?) on my new '06 base Vibe with 215K. I have the valve cover gasket, timing chain tensioner o ring, vvt solenoid o ring, cam position sensor o ring and crank position sensor o ring but I can'...

Re: new owner of 06 Vibe w/214K

my thought on buying an older, high mileage car was that my daughter(s) are going to hit something with whatever car they drive...so better an older one! (although now I'm getting pretty attached to this Vibe and hope no harm comes to it)

Re: Dome light replacement

good timing, I just replaced my 2 dome light bulbs and cleaned the switch. New led bulbs made a huge difference in light output and then I sprayed electrical contact cleaner in each switch and turned it on and off a bunch of times. Now it works perfectly. The switch just had years of dirt build up i...

Re: new owner of 06 Vibe w/214K

thanks for the welcome! I'm in the Iowa City, IA, area..Go Hawks! I think starting out with an older car will teach my girls a lot of life lessons. Handing a teen a new Toyota/Jeep/BMW sends the wrong message regarding having to work hard for things in life. Replaced the pcv valve, cabin air filter,...

new owner of 06 Vibe w/214K

Hey, guys, thought I'd post about my 'new' Vibe since I've spent so much time reading the forum. I needed a car for my soon to be driving teen daughters and didn't want to spend a fortune. My mother's next door neighbor had a Vibe for sale and I bought it. I was a little hesitant at first after I fo...
