Vibe upgrade

After about a year of faithful service, 36 MPG on the highway, 30 in town, and hauling more lumber than it was ever made to, I made the tough decision to trade the base frosty in on a silverado. The vibe just wouldn't be able to haul my horse trailer or camper, and I didn't want 2 car payments. I'll...

Re: Road trip experience: changes needed immediately (UndaCuva)

Oh yeah, and we didn't have any padding in the car when we slept because we hadn't planned on sleeping in the car. We were supposed to drive straight through, but turned out to be a bad idea. I'm torn now, the vibe has so much potential, but I messed up getting a base model with an auto trans. Life ...

Re: Road trip experience: changes needed immediately (the1stacekiller)

I spent a LOT of time adjusting the seats (driver and passenger) in the vibe during this trip, but it didn't help. I need something with more adjustment. I'd probably be ok if the steering wheel telescoped out about 2 inches, but my wife still misses the reclining/tilting of her Oldsmobile Intrigue....

Road trip experience: changes needed immediately

So my wife and I finally take our honeymoon. Roadtrip from Kansas City MO to Las Vegas. (We didn't come back rich) Anyway, there is good news and bad news. GOOD: Averaged 36MPG.....Only spent $260 in gas there and back.BAD: Mountains. The car sucks in the mountains. (2004 Base Auto)Seats: Absolutely...

Re: First time thermometer in single digets (Shadow-Vibe)

I saw -11 driving by the lake last week after MO got around 10 inches of snow in 2 days. Made the third day feel quite nice at 20 degrees!

The best idea so far is the taking it off and keeping it around just in case. I was hoping to be able to fill in the wholes (I've done a bunch of body work) and have a nice smooth roof, but I guess I have to face facts. The wife wants the roof rac for practical reasons, and since She's so wonderful,...

window type noise

Got a noise at highway crusing speeds. Sounds like one of the windows isn't all the way up. But they are. Anybody experience this before? I have so far ruled out the antenna, but the roofrack could be doing it. I want to take it off, but the wife likes it for some reason.

Re: When to change the plugs? (Cue-Ball)

Change your plugs when you have problems with them. I have a mazda protege with 183,000+ still running great on 2cd set of plugs. Changed them at 140,000 with the timing belt. I have changed a ton of plugs at work (mechanic) just because mileage on fleet computer said to. What a waste!

*&&^%ing accessory power outlets

I cannot charge my cell phone or razor in my vibe unless the friggin' ignition is on. Has anyone wired these to direct power rather than remote power, and if so, did you have to run a new power lead? I'm actually considering putting a power distribution block under the hood directly off the battery ...

Another roof rack problem

Problem: I hate the roofrack on my 04 base Frosty monotone. The wife says I have to keep them just in case we take the vibe on a road trip instead of her oldsmobile with leather seats and tons of trunk space and huge gas tank. How do I convince her she's insane so I can take the roof racks off?

White monotone vibes rock! They ROCK! Mine is a 2004, but I'm planning to add a black mid spoiler, and a black body kit with white accents. I want to do some photoshopping before I start spending lots of $$ on paint. Anyone done anything like this that has pics?

Re: (Mavrik)

Don't know if my factory tires are directional, haven't checked, but I do know they are radial tires. That means they have a steel belt in them. Rotation should only be front to back. Changing directions of radial tires creates a serious risk of explosion and early sidewall failure. I am a professio...

i have an 04 base, auto transaxle. Driving around town (10 miles a month)? i romp on it as much as i can. Interstae (99%) i drive "normal" No quick accelleration, tires are checked every week for inflation. i get about 270 miles out of a tank of gas, and i think it sucks. But oh well, can'...

Re: Spare tire relocation (djb383)

Thanks for the idea, but as a mechanic, I know that run flats aren't all they are cracked up to be. They are good in an emergency pretty much only when you are close to somewhere to get a tire put on, and have the cash to do so. Not always the case with me, so I will keep exploring other options.

Spare tire relocation

So....I'm looking around in the vibe on where to put subwoofers. Duh, spare tire well. Only problem is, I drive the ever-loving *^&% out of my cars, and I need to have a spare and jack with me all the time. Anyone know of a spare tire relocation bar or have any ideas on how I can fabricate one? ...

Gas mileage woahs

I keep hearing everyone talk about how great their gas mileage is, and that is basically why I bought a vibe. I drive 63 miles one way to work and back each day. It's all interstate miles. I figured out after the first month, it was costing me $12.50 a day to go to work. That translates to about 26 ...

OEM equipment under the rear floor

i got my vibe used, and there is a tire strap and a bag of hardware to fit into the railings on the plastic floor when it's foled down. What are these items for? I'm a bit nuts, and I don't want to open up the bags to read the paper inside of them. Anyone already open them up or used these items, pl...

Just got my vibe

Hey ya'll. Just got rid of my 1995 Dodge Caravan cargo van and got an 04 Vibe base. Gonna make it pretty, and stuff it full of stereo, but no go fast goodies in store. Got a 60 mile one way to work commute, and hoping the 33 MPG helps me out. Any ideas, sites, or pics on cosmetic mods for these thin...
