Re: Catalytic converter replacement?

Hey guys, I'm an engineer and I calibrate OBDII monitors for a living, though I don't work for Toyota. For the record, 150,000 miles is considered "Full Useful Life" of a catalyst, so it's not unreasonable for the cat to just be tapped out. That said, since we have to be emissions-complian...

Re: Has anyone gotten their airbags replaced under the recal

They search current vehicle registrations to find recalled cars. Doesn't matter if you pulled a derelict out of a field and got a new title issued so you could register and drive it. Big brother will find you. I've already contacted my local dealer and they happen to have one inflator in stock. Put ...

Re: 4 channel amplifier: MB QUART vs ALPINE... opinions?

I'm having trouble finding any real specs on those amps. If I were making the decision myself, I would buy the lowest THD rated class AB amp with 50W per channel that didn't go over my budget. Remember you want the rated distortion at rated power, not at 1 watt. (or at least make sure you're compari...

Re: Has anyone gotten their airbags replaced under the recal

Not sure, but there's a website GM has put up to check your VIN.

I got a notice in the mail about the recall, saying that they want to replace the airbag because it was PREVIOUSLY registered in Florida, so I think we should be good.

Re: Has anyone gotten their airbags replaced under the recal

What do you mean about your throttle cable? Probably a reference to how only the 03/04 vibes have throttle cables and the rest are DBW. Ahh. My 09 is very hard to start smoothly. I figured it was because of DBW somehow but if the 03/04 with cable is the same way... hmm. Mine is a GT. As far as I kn...

Re: Has anyone gotten their airbags replaced under the recal

That just hit the national news today, they do not have stacks of replacement airbags in stock. As with all recalls this is going to take a while. Oh wow, I had been hearing about the Takata airbag recalls for so long, and knew that there was some airbag-related Vibe racall in the past, so I though...

Has anyone gotten their airbags replaced under the recall?

I finally looked into the recall, and my '04 GT is definitely included. I can see that Toyota/GM only want to replace airbags in cars currently registered in Florida. My problem: I moved from Florida to Michigan four months ago. Any advice for me? This car was in Miami for ten years , and is absolut...

Re: Have any experience with Ralco's RZ shifter?

You know, I spent a bunch of time inspecting the bushings at the shifter, since that's what I had to fix in my last car, but I didn't think to check at the transmission end of the linkage. There's some rattling noise when I shift too... I'll have to check that out, thanks! Does MWR publish anywhere ...

Re: Check engine light - evap codes

I agree with ehoff121. It's extremely unlikely that your ECU has failed, and I'm an OBD-II calibration engineer. I don't work for Toyota though, so there's some speculation involved in any advice I give you. You can get your codes scanned at most auto parts stores for free. You can also get a blueto...

Have any experience with Ralco's RZ shifter?

Hey folks. I introduced myself on this forum almost a year ago right after I bought my Vibe GT, but I haven't been back much since then, as the Vibe's been treating me well. I have finally come down firmly on the "hate" side of the shifter linkage though, so I'm looking for an aftermarket ...

Re: Hello folks, just picked up a Vibe GT in great shape!

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. Over an extended weekend, I took it on a shakedown trip from Miami to Orlando and back - around 700 miles with the in-town driving. Tracked fuel consumption and made 26 mpg on the way up, 27 in town, and on the way back set speed control at 70 and pulled 31 wi...

Re: Hello folks, just picked up a Vibe GT in great shape!

Well, the 'lude turned 4500 @ 80 mph in top gear. I used to cruise around for hours on end with only 2k between me and valve float. There's a big margin I can fit into and still have improvement lol.

Re: Hello folks, just picked up a Vibe GT in great shape!

I'm already jonesing for a deeper final drive ratio so the engagement point isn't so far away all the time. The Prelude had 2000 RPM less rev-range at the top, and 1000 less at the bottom, and all of the torque was in a lump right in the middle of that range (It didn't have the VTEC engine). I could...

Re: Hello folks, just picked up a Vibe GT in great shape!

Are those bushings accessible by just removing the plastic around the shifter mechanism? Ordinarily I would just dive in, but this car is so much cleaner than any I've ever owned before that I hesitate to start hacking it up... By "LIFT", you're referring to when the second cam profile kic...

Hello folks, just picked up a Vibe GT in great shape!

Hello everyone. On Friday I bought an '04 Vibe GT with 70k on the clock, and it's in better condition than it has any right to be. I got it from the original owner and apparently he garaged it and put seat covers, a steering wheel cover, and aftermarket floor mats in it the day he took it home and l...
