Re: Warranty Voided by using aftermarket speakers! (Mavrik)

I called on a Saturday morning. He was probably just trying to blow me off so he could go home for the weekend without another car coming through.I called Pontiac customer support and documented the whole process. They recommended going to another dealer. When I called another out-of-town dealer, th...

Re: Warranty Voided by using aftermarket speakers! (joatmon)

I noticed it as soon as I bought it - I was actually inside the dealership. Unfortunately, I bought the car (with 15k miles) at a VW dealer. I told the salesman at VW about the problem. They referred me to the Pontiac dealer. When I told the service advisor at Pontiac, he recommmended switching to a...

Re: Warranty Voided by using aftermarket speakers! (Mavrik)

I think you're right. Of course from their perspective, I could have crossed the speaker wires during install, shorting the amp. But the only way I could possibly do that is by running the amp while I do the install...

Re: Warranty Voided by using aftermarket speakers! (Psychobroker)

I checked out the ftc website you posted. Then I checked with my owner's manual. Sure enough, GM left themselves a written "out" for the 3 year/ 36k warranty. To paraphrase, any modifications not installed by a GM dealer can void the warranty. The odd thing is that I only took the factory ...

Re: Warranty Voided by using aftermarket speakers! (joatmon)

Thanks for the help guys. This has been my first experience with a car nice enough to have a warranty, let alone a factory-installed (albeit broken) amplifier. Hopefully, with the assistance of GM customer service and another dealer's opinion I can have a fully operational stereo in my vibe. As for ...

Re: Warranty voided by aftermarket speaker install! (Psychobroker)

Thanks, guys. I'm going to work on GM. I'm trying to save up for grad school (otherwise I'd just go wild with a whole new system.)

Warranty voided by aftermarket speaker install!

I am the new owner of a (used) '03 vibe.I just got back from the nearest pontiac dealer. Long story short, my stereo's amp is blown, but since I've replaced the rear speakers, my warranty is void. According to the service advisor, replacing the factory amp costs over $500.The ironic part is, I had t...

Re: (cdFxer)

That's what I was thinking too. I looked inside the rear doors and under the passenger seat. It doesn't look like anything was modified. Hopefully the dealer will replace the amp. By the way, my addition of new rear speakers won't void the warranty, will it?Also - I've noticed that if I play CD-R's,...

Re: (cdFxer)

You're saying that you got the full range out of the speakers with the original head unit and amp, right?

Re: (Jahntassa)

Nope. No obvious wiring modifications. Everything looks factory. In fact, it must be factory because there's no slack in any of the wiring, and everything is tucked in very professionally. I just called a couple pontiac dealers in the area- looks like they might have to replace the M&T amp or th...

HELP! My fears came true - bass signal only in rear door panels!

I ripped out the old 5" toyota speakers, drilled perfect holes for my infinity 6.5" 2 ways, tested the signal with clip leads, and shook my head...I'm still only getting a bass signal in these wires. Is this the way the M &T amp directs the signal? Is it possible to use the factory amp...

Re: (ragingfish)

Should I get some rubber speaker baffles or dynamat to minimize door panel vibrations? If I do that will I get any more bass from my infinitys? Or should I just bolt the speaker directly to the door? Thanks again.

Re: (Jahntassa)

Thanks for the tip. I looked inside the speaker grill. Looks like the previous owner put some aftermarket 5" woofers in the back doors with some kind of cutoff to only lett bass frequencies pass through. (Sounds terrible, right?) Now my infinity 6.5" are like 2 1/8" deep. Will that fi...

Bass in rear speakers - should I use dynamat or rubber baffles?

Does anyone else have this problem? I just bought an '03 vibe (looks like moon & tunes, from what I gather: moon roof an 6 speaker stereo.)The front speakers play a full range (though muddy and tinny), but the rear door speakers only play bass sounds (and muddy at that). Is this the way the syste...
