FYI - A day or so later, the hood started popping up while driving. I drove it straight to a shop. It was a broken spring in the latch. $135 for the latch, $45 for service, plus tax.

Good idea, but it didn't work. I thought if I took the latch off I might understand the issue, but can't even figure that out. I took off the front two bolts and couldn't figure out what else has to come off, but the latch is clearly still attached somewhere.

Hood is having issues latching. I can eventually get it to latch if holding in the release and repeatedly slam the hood, but it doesn't feel like it takes too much force for me to pop it back open simply by pulling up on the hood with my finger tips. No amount of PB Blaster / WD40 makes a difference...
