17 inches worked for both amps I have in the back of mine. Ran them through the hole in the fire wall just above the brake. Then down the drivers side coming out where the latch is for the rear drivers seat and still have about a foot of cable left. Both wires are 8 gauge.

I just recieved a recall notice about this issue today. I haven't had any problems realating to this so I guess that's good. Suppose I should head to the dealership.....

I've actually had this same problem with mine after I bought it. There are 3 bulbs behind the display as you can see in the attached image. I got replacement bulbs from RadioShack however they do require to be soldered in. If you are good a soldering this will be a quick and easy fix.http://www.radi...
