You have to hold the HATCH button down for about 2-3 seconds before it unlocks. If that doesn't work, see the dealer.

I'll try that and keept you updated. I press hach button for about 1 sec. Another question about that. Is the hach button open the tail gate or only the rear window?

quote:Another question about that. Is the hach button open the tail gate or only the rear window? It only opens the rear hatch glass window, not the entire hatch itself. Also note, the glass hatch doesn't pop fully open when you use the HATCH button on the remote, it just unlocks the window so you can pull it open yourself. The UNLOCK button on your remote (pressed twice) will unlock the main hatch.

Thanks NSimkins. I'll try that as soon I'll be back home. If it does not work, I will advise my dealer at my next appointement for oil chage. Are the light flashing when we push the hatch button? Mine are not. They only flash one for lock and twice for unlock.

You know, if you actually read the owners manual, you would know this already.KEY FOB These only work when teh key is NOT in the ignition. Press UNLOCK once = unlocks drivers door only (lights flash twice) Press UNLOCK twice = unlocks all doors and rear hatch door but not the hatch glass (lights flash twice) Press and hold HATCH for about 2-3 seconds = pops hatch glass (no lights flash) Press LOCK = locks all doors and rear hatch door but not the glass (lights flash once) This only works if all doors are hatch glass are closedDOOR SWITCH Press UNLOCK = unlocks all doors and rear hatch door but not rear hatch glass (no lights flash) Press LOCK = locks all doors and rear hatch door but not rear hatch glass (no lights flash) This only works if the key is NOT in the ignition. Pressing LOCK on the door switch with the key in the ignition will UNLOCK all doors.MISCELLANEOUS Press the HATCH button on the dash = pops hatch glass (no lights flash) Insert key in rear hatch and turn counter-clockwise unlocks the hatch door Insert key in rear hatch and turn clockwise to position one locks the hatch door only Insert key in rear hatch and turn clockwise past position 1 to position 2 unlocks the hatch glass The only way to lock the hatch glass is to close it by hand. Also for cars with power locks: Insert key in driver door and turn once unlocks driver door only, turn key a second time and it unlocks all doors and the rear hatch door (not the glass). Insert key in passenger door and turn once unlocks all doors and the rear hatch door (not the glass).READ THE MANUAL!

I actually did read the manual (with usual lightning speed, molasses comprehension) and missed this item. I thought my hatch button didn't work, either. It's probably for the best that you have to hold it down really deliberately.

LavaTroll, does it work now that you know the correct procedure? I ask because some people on this board did have problems with the rear hatch unlocking. However, I think most were with the door and not the glass.

OK, I spent 2 hours at the dealer's reading the manual the evening I ordered the Vibe back in August. And I downloaded the online version and read it. And I read the whole "how it all works" from Scott (thank you very much for the most concise description thus far) posted above. And, in three weeks or so, I hope to be able to experiment with my own, real, live Vibe. But I still don't see a way to drive up to the grocery loading lane, with the key in the ignition, with the engine running, and remotely pop the whole hatch, sheet metal and all. Do I have to stop the engine, remove the key, and use the fob?

As Scott wrote "Press UNLOCK twice = unlocks all doors and rear hatch door but not the hatch glass (lights flash twice)"If only your driver door is unlocked and you are sitting inside the car, just hit the unlock button on your driver's door panel. So, if you are driving around with all 4 doors unlocked this includes the hatch door. So you can leave the engine running, and just open the hatch, or someone from outside can open it and climb in!

Yesterday, when I came back form work, I tried to hold the hatch button and what a surprise, the hatch pops up!I won`t have to go to the service dept. to have it fixed. quote: READ THE MANUAL! Yes NovaRessource, your wrigh. We should read the manual before using someting.I read it, but no very carefully and I missed that point. Moral of this story: Read the owner manual before saying there`s problem or it does not work. Very often, it is a user problem.

I think a key point here is to understand the difference between UNLOCKED and OPEN.OPENing the full hatch is ALWAYS done by hand. You only LOCK and UNLOCK it using the keys, fobs, door switch, etc.Hope this helps.Earl(Vibe ordered 11/7)

If you want to pop the rear hatch (not glass) just press the unlock button on the door panel. That unlocks all the doors and rear hatch. If you just want to pop the rear glass, press the button on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

quote: If you want to pop the rear hatch (not glass) just press the unlock button on the door panel. That unlocks all the doors and rear hatch. So simple! I kept looking in the manual for a separate button (as on my older cars). Regarding the collision between the masses and technology, one of the digital system architects I used to work with often said "it's hard to make a device foolproof because fools are so darned ingenious".
