05 (base) code= P-0741=---------

Post by jamesmetairie »

05 (base) Vibe. about 139,000 miles, automatic tranny

code P-0741 lite up.
several years ago alot of posters had luck by just changing the tranny fluid.
Historically I always heard that would be suicide for the tranny unless it,s be done on time all along.

what do you guys recommend ?

thanks for any advice.

Doing a drain and fill should be fine. If you have high miles, you absolutely do NOT want to do a transmission FLUSH, as that is usually done with a machine forcing fluid through the system - sometimes carrying pieces of metal along with it.

x2. Do a drain and fill 3-4 times to try and totally remove all of the old fluid. Do it over the course of a few thousand miles, and you should find that your P0741 code is a goner. :D

my local highly recommened tranny shop didn,t even want to look at it.
then i went to toyota. toyota said it had to be a toyota for them to look at it ????
then i called a diffent toyota dealer. they said they don,t work on cars more then 10 years old.
what i heck.

i,m hoping the multi fluid change works.

thankful for the advice the folks on this web site share.

That's a strange experience you had with the Toyota dealers. Most of them realize that the car _is_ a Toyota, especially the power train. As for the other one, I suspect they'd get in trouble with Toyota Corporate if they caught wind that they said that about the age.

Besides the fluid, change the filter too.
