Ashtray option.

Is it true, that the astray option simply consist of an astray that just slip into one of the cup holder, with a cigarette lighter into the lighter socket (in lieu of the plastic cap covering the socket). Now I assume, that the lighter socket is functional (even then you did not order the astray option) because you might need it for other appliance (portable cd player, cellphone (I know there is a dedicated plug for that), etc.).Now, I about to buy a Vibe, but it has the astray option ($25 cdn), since I'm a non-smoker, they could reduce the price by the same amount, but leave it on the car anyway.

When I first saw the ashtray, I thought it was some kind of travel coffee cup, but now I use mine for loose change.

(I'm sure I said that right)if you don't miss the little plastic cover, i would ask the dealer to reduce the price $25.00 it can't hurt.

It is very good at holding little things like change, paper clips, small kids toys that I take away from them because they are acting up in the back seat, etc....I have not found the other two "coin holders" to be very effective.

The smoking package came free with mine and I didn't even ask for it...I use the cup for spare change. But no one will ever smoke in my car, as long as it belongs to me.

Yep, change holder. I do smoke, and I smoke in the Vibe, but I would never use a car ashtray for ashes.

Exactly!! I just flick the ashes out the window, yeah, occasionally an ash will come in, but I can just vacuum it up, it is so nasty when ashes are all over the place.

If a state bans drivers' use of cell phones in cars, they should also ban drivers' smoking.

yes, plese take smoking pleasure/evil discussion to http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5190Now, back on topicPopeye, let us know if the dealer will cut you the $25 credit for "de-installing" the "smoker's package"Someday I may make a modified 12V plug and put a Voltmeter in it, snce the VIbe's gauges don't include one, and just leave that plugged into the lighter outlet in the dash

[I assume that the reason for ash trasy in cars is to allow smoking motorists to comply with those laws at least until they can find a secluded parking lot to dump out their ashtray. ]I am not so much about anti-smoking as I am about anti-littering. Columbus City Council recently passed a law that would prohibit smoking in all public places including bars, bowling alleys, bingo games etc. I signed the pro-smokers petition to put it on the ballot -let the citizens decide, not a City Council that is not so much elected as they are appointed since the "sheep" virtually always vote for the party endorsed candidates.

outlaw smoking in bingo, bars, etc., and you are hurting that businessbtw i use my ashtray in my house. it's great for when you have clumsy turds over. if the knock it over when the lid is down, everything is a-ok!(it's also great for tapping out a pinch-hitter)

OK. IMO anyone who is nitpicking over $25 on a $20,000 car has no business buying a $20,000 car. I wasn't thrilled by having to pay $289 (invoice price) for the monotone appearance package either but that was as close as I could get to "exactly" what I wanted without having to special order so I paid for it without a whimper.

I like my ashtray. I use mine for coins, comes in handy at the car wash for a quick spraying off of the bugs and even when we're out and want to stop to buy a soda. Those little coin holders are pathetic! I hate loose change floating all around the car. I smoke but use the window for my ashes and I flick the fire off the (removed) and put it in my litter bag which is emptied every day, if there is something in it. When I'm in the car with someone else, I don't smoke. I also don't allow anyone else to smoke in my car. Have you ever had a cig burn from someone else thats smoking in your car? I normaly wait untill I get out to smoke, I know it's my car and all but I'm just that way. I haven't even used my car lighter yet, but it's there if I need it for anything. I suppose if you don't have a use for the smokers package then why get it? Thats just 25 bucks you can spend on something else!

I didn't have the smoker's package, but do have a "cup" with a flip lid that I also use for coins. Was I not supposed to get that?

Did you get a lighter for the 12v plug or is there simply a cap over it?

Someone here said that the recepticle was different - that you could not just plug a cigarette lighter thingamabob in there. Hard to believe they would make it that different. I only use the recepticle in the center console - have the cell phone charger there. [And I think I am misspelling recepticle".]

Mystery solved - the "smoker's package" only became optional in 2005. Was standard in 2003 and 2004. US $15 Retail, $13 Invoice.
