I've always wondered what the GT stands for when it comes to automobiles. It seems to correlate with sportiness, but I can't think of what it would stand for. Does anybody know?

I have no idea but I always tend to think of it as "Good times."

I think it used to stand for Grand Touring or Grand Tour. Nowadays, it is just a way to diferentiate an option package which upgrades engines or suspensions etc.

As someone never into getting to the next stop light before someone else I think it stands for "Get Taken".[More money; premium fuel; lower mpg.]

I think you are right. Ferrari had a car named the GTO first. (Gran Turismo Omlagato-sp?)

I read in an article somewhere that GTO was a concept Pontiac took from Ferarri (I think it was Ferarri) and it was Gran Turismo O-something. I've read it a few times, so maybe I'll read it again if I remember where it is. I'll post a link if/when I find it again.

I believe that on the Mustang the GT stood for Garbage Truck.I think that Gran Tourismo was for a class of race/race-car. It believe that it was primarily a European series..Quick Joke: If you'r American when you go in the bathroom, and American when you come out of the bathroom, what are you while you're in there?A: European!
