Map Lights Addition When you have Moonroof

Hey guys,I just finished my first mod. I have an 04 Trix with the moonroof. And since I have the moonroof, GM/Toyota decided that I would not need map lights like the Base Vibes have. Pretty silly 'eh? Anyways, since I remembered that most "luxury" GM vehicles have had the map lights in the rear-view for quite a number of years... I went to my local salvage yard to pick up one. $30 later, I pulled a rear-view from a 96 Cutlass Supreme Sedan. There were three wires to the mirror, orange, yellow, and black. The black was ground. The Orange was for Ign switched power, and the Yellow was from the door triggers (I believe connecting this one would illuminate both map lights when the door is opened). I did not connect the yellow wire.I simply ran the wires from the dome light/moonroof switch harness using the pin description posted by johntassa herehttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9101and connected black to pin8 (white/Black wire on harness) (GND)and orange to pin2 (black wire on harness) (IGN 12V)using wire taps.Wrapped everything up with electrical tape, and reassmebled everything. As for mounting of the new mirror... the lighted mirrors at the salvage yard slide off by giving a swift tug to the top of the windsheild... the MAtrix one comes off with a Torx set screw, and then sliding towards the top of the windshield. Also while I had IGN switched power up running down the windshield I hardwired the power cord for the radar detector.I hope this helps anyone out there who doesn't want to be blinded when the passenger in the car want to look at a map or something.-OmarPS The only mirrors I found were the ones with two map-lights or ones that were auto-dimming. Are there mirrors that do both? Which mirrors have the compass built-in?

ebslopp, In the 03 models, if you got the moonroof, you didn't get the lights in the bottom of the mirror, there is a light in the moonroof control, so I guess they figured you didn't need them in the mirror too, or maybe just trying to save a buck. If you didn't get the moonroof, then your mirror had the lights, two on the bottom of the mirror that shine down with no glare into the driver's eyes. If that is the same for 04, and you did not get either the moonroof or the lights in the mirror, then you were robbed.omarq, I did a similar thing with a Matrix mirror I got off ebay http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=3852Much much better than the spotlight in your face map light in the moonroof control

There is a Toyota model that has auto dim + compass + map lights. The Toyota dealer I ordered mine from offered me this when I ordered my auto dim/compass model. Since it was quite a bit more, I passed. Sorry I did not write down the part number. I got the autodim/compass part number from in here along with the dealer info. I have seen Auto-dim/compass/maplight units available for Silverado trucks. My stock Silverado mirror/lights mount the same as the new one in my Vibe.

If you get the Moon Roof on an 04, then you wont get map lights, but if you dont get a Roof, then you should get lights

Good job!My 03 has a light with a switch which IMO is the map light, near the light that comes on when the door is opened. Instead I put a compass/temp, auto dimming mirror on my car.
