Anyone know how to remove the plastic part located under the shifter.I mean the part who cover the shirter assembly and has the little storage. Is it only clipped or I have to remove tons or screw and remove half of the dash to be able to remove this single part?
Joatmon, thanks for the heads-up on those dead pictures. I'm working now to replace them.If you come across any more threads with that problem, shoot me an IM and let me know. I'm still working on rebuilding my image server from when my last host went belly-up on me, and I can't remember all the threads I had pictures in.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Keep in mind, my walkthrough was for the automatic transmission...your 5 speed will have slightly different steps. If you need help, shoot me an IM, I can walk you through it (with help from Mr. Service Manual )

I think the only difference between auto and manual is that in the manual you have to either free up the shift boot, or unscrew the shift knob so that when you pull off the gray trim piece it can come clear of the shift lever.
Mike, Is there enough room on the inside of the lower console to add 2 4X6 speakers. They are about 1.5 inches deep. I just had a little lightbulb pop up above my head.

You have the shifter, the vent duck, something like an ECM and some wiring here. so I doubt 4x6 speakers will fit at this location.
How are you going to get that to sound good tho? I'd imagine you might have to cut/drills some holes so the speakers wouldn't sound as if they were encased in something
I was going to find a good mounting point, make a template for the speakers, cut out the sides of the console according to my template and cover them with low profile grates. I have 2 really nice 4X6 clarion components sitting around with no real use.

The airbag control computer is behind the dash I believe right below the glove compartment. It would look really cool if you could get the speakers to look like they were an integral part of that center console
I'll go check in about an hr to see whether or not there is room for the speakers since I'm going to be messing around in my car (with the outlet) anyway. I'll also see if there is anything you can secure the speakers to since just having them sit in the cutouts isn't too stable
Having them sit in the cutouts should be OK since they are designed for high range with no real bass running through them. Let me know if you see enough space though. Thanks.

Well I guess it depends on how tightly they fit in teh cutouts so you might want to start with them smaller and slowly shave away to get the speakers in really tight. My concern would be that if you hit a pot hole or a speed bump to fast they might fall back inside the console
I would screw them into the console. The screw would go through the back of the speaker, through the console and into the grill which would keep it tight. Or I could mount a double sided bold into the grill and run it through holes drilled into the console outside the speaker cutout and use a nut on the inside to keep the speaker tight.

Before you start cutting up the plastic console, you should probably hook up the speakers and duct tape them in position to be sure that you can hear the difference and that the difference is worth the effort and the holes. You could also try them in the back corners, should be relatively easy to make a replacement for those two tail light access panels, keep the stock ones stock, but I'm not sure if you could hear a difference with the speakers back there. Would help for all those poopy tail gate parties though

I planned on doing a dry run on them I wouldn't want to cut and realize they won't fit. I have my towing wiring stored in the rear taillight covers, so that's out, I thought about that one already.

I didn't have much time to check out the space down there and I forgot the dimensions of your speakers but I will deifnitely look tomorrow and I actually did redirect the power from the outlet to the glovebox (and somehow now it turns on even when the engin eisn't running just when the key is in the on position). However I saved the switch so I could choose when to supply power and when not to. I'll post back longer and explanation of how I did it along with running the cables from under the seat to the glove box so they are invisible
