Does anybody here drive a Jetta with the 1.8T? I'm thinking about trading my Escort in for one, but I have never met anybody that has owned one. Are they reliable? How's the insurance? Are you happy with it?Is there a different car I should consider?

My daughter has one and it is a very nice car. Her husband is a VW mechanic. Good thing because they have a bad rap for problems. Check out consumer reports for info.

Yes, VW Jettas have been having notable problems for years now. I hear of a lot of problems with the electrical systems. Seems to be a sore spot for VW overall. On the positive side though, I think that the interior of the newest generation of the Jetta is very nice, especially with the leather seats.

http://www.vwvortex.comHead there and post the same question, you should get a WHOLE lot of answers. Consumer Reports isn't too trustworthy for vehicles (this has been debated before, so search for it if you want to see) and problems can rather be hit or miss at times from what my friends/family have experienced. VW Vortex should have all the information you would ever want to know abouto any VW vehicle
