The turn signal halo effect

So I took delivery on my Lava Vibe last night, and as I drove it down the interstate to my parents' house for a congratulatory dinner, I was digging the cool red display very much. I noticed that the silvery, circular gauge rings pick up glints of light from other cars, streetlights, anything and can occasionally cause slight distractions, but I got used to it during the 10 or so mile drive. Then when I left the interstate and joined traffic on a major road, I used my left turn signal and freaked out. Watching the road, I saw a green ring of light coming from my center ring. It was like a blinking halo. I realized of course that it was a reflection from the turn indicator, and thought "well, at least I know I won't be leaving my turn signal on for 10 miles like SOME people on the roads."Has anyone else noticed this nocturnal occurance, or thought much of it? I wonder if it was a designed feature or merely a side effect of having reflective circles around the displays...

Oh yes, I have DEFINITELY noticed that. Especially at night, it practically lights up the car. But like you said...you get used to it. One thing that's hard to become used to, though, is the light reflection in the windshield off the chrome trim....while the chrome looks great, it wasn't the most logical trim for a dashboard. *shrug* Minor flaw in an otherwise great car!

Just got home and I didn't even notice anything with the signal light even after reading this post.

Ya, it's quite noticeable, and at first was kind of annoying. Doesn't bother me now. Maybe it was designed that way so it is so noticeable that us old farts don't drive 50 miles on the X-way w/o remembering to turn it off........Carl

Yes I agree that halo effect always reminds me that my blinker is on. Like that --BUT WAIT until the sun shines in your drivers window over your shoulder and those cute halos become rings of fire reflecting the sunshine and blinding you. A slightly brushed chrome would be better. James
