Yep.. thats right... Some how while I was driving, a rock kindly bounced off my driver's side fog light. I went into dealership for oilchange, and had them quote parts and labor for the fog light... $235.00 !! So I went home, spent 10 min to remove the light.. and then called for part only ... $153.00 ... I have been trying all over the place to find a used replacement. Also I have conisdered aftermarket lights... but if anyone has noticed, these lights are pretty prepriortary.. with a funky angle, and special mounting..any ideas??? I have sent emails to junkyards for suggestions as well..

I think i paid about $90 (included shipping) from GMPARTSDIRECT.COM . Very good place, and I that included the bulb also.

i installed aftermarket lights for $60 for the pair. they look better, light better, and much less than the $110 the dealer quoted me here.

i was super-cheap when mine broke. My driver's side lamp caught a rock and got a 2.5mm hole in the glass near the bottom of the lens. i gingerly removed the lamp housing, allowed it to dry out in the house and carefully applied 4 layers of clear packing tape in perfect criscrossed rows across the lens and that has worked fine for 6 months. It's starting to pick up moisture recently, but replacing the tape again is still cheaper than the alternative. The cheapest i found for the light was $120 USD. If you can find someone that sells clear headlight protectant film or 3M Scotchprint 'Cleargard' that will work even better to seal the unit again.

I just want to know who's brilliant idea was it to make the lens out of glass instead of plastic. Something that close to the road should be more durable. SO stupid.

With the way the fog light was angled, I didn't thing that the Matrix had the same design with it closer and flatter in its grill... but I will be happy to call the Toyota folks.. ...and trdvibe.. if you happen to have the link for those aftermarket lights, that would be great!! Also now wondering if these aftermarket ones will run on my existing electrical? No extra switch needed?? Thanks again guys!!

no, i cut the wire connectors off and just spliced them together. didn't take real long. most time was spent getting the stupid fogs out of the covers! i actually bot the fogs on ebay, but found i could get some closer sized ones at the local schucks auto store, even some cool angel eye ones. will do that next time when i replace that lower bumper... but little at a time.

There are products available to protect your headlights. They are clear plastic films and cost about $50.00. Probably well worth the price considering replacement costs.

$150 per foglight... from the Toyota parts desk... I'm still waiting on that one email from a junk yard saying that they have a vibe with rear-end damage... I am also really considering the aftermarket path.. those angel-eye fog lights are pretty cool.. and less than $100 for 2..

Still no luck in finding a cheaper factory light.. I have tried all the local salvage yards.. and guess what?? NO Vibes.. Is this a good thing? Not for me right now.. And don't think that when I pull into a parking lot with another Vibe I don't think to myself... "OOh.. there is a replacement right there!!! " ... Though I am still a little wary with installing an aftermarket, being that I do not have alot of experience doing a custom install bracket to make it fit.... Still looking...

Go on ebay...Find a seller who has lots of Vibe parts for sale...shoot him an email asking about fogs...I'm looking for a new driver side power mirror, I sent out a few e-mails...no one had one that wasn't destroyed, but they did all respond.

Well, I finally bit... A salvage yard in TX.. http://www.qaparts.com.. came to my rescue.. Although at first giving me a price of $160 !!, I continued to tell them that I could find it cheaper.. then they came back with a price of $120/shipped. So.. I couldn't figure of any other way.. This pretty little Vibe is on lease.. so going with aftermarkets my have hurt my chances with trading it back in.. So.. there you go!... Take care of those pretty little fog lights!!!! ~mental note... if ever in an accident, remove fog lights, head lights, mirrors, tail lights, ... wheels, floor mats, steering wheel, and nav system.. before turning into salvage yard..~

well i had another foglight casualty the last month or so. finally went and bought some cheap replacement fogs from my other ones. first aftermarket fogs. they are smaller than the OEM housings, but much brighterthe new foglight installed. had to figure out a creative way to mount it since the new ones use a different bracket. and a side by side comparison of the new fog (left) and the damaged OEM replacement from january (right)

Almost any foglight is going to be glass because they use Halogen bulbs. Plastic lenses aren't going to be that great... I do like Hope's idea though.

well at $40 a set, it's sure as hell cheaper than paying the dealership $153 per OEM fog!!! plus these are much much brighter

Made custom for lamp protectors before I have a break out just for this reason. Glass is not the best for this reason and cannot understand why they used glass when the majority out there are Lexan now like the headlamps. Possibly glass was cheaper. My PT Cruiser, old Z24, parents Buick, Grand Am, Grand Prix, all have Lexan, most are these days.In my experience the OE fogs out of Lexan last a hell of a lot longer then after-markets. Went through 4 sets of aftermarkets on one car in ten years, could not take the everytime use of heat and the beating the front end takes by the weather. The above aftermarkets do not fill up the hole and do not look good to me. I would have searched for after-markets that fill the entire hole. Ebay is another possibility for a good used one or pair.

well, i looked for some that fill the entire hole and didn't like them. plus, really i don't give a crap as long as i have some fogs that work and light up far better than the factory OEM. and since it's my car and not yours, then it doesn't matter. again, at $40/set, not enough to worry about. what "custom" cover(?) you said you made to help prevent your fogs from breaking? like a clear overlay or an actual plexiglass or lexan cover? i'd like to get a rock guard or something for them, but just don't see how i can get them to work/look right. oh well.

Can I see a picture of your Cust Lexan Fog protectors as I am planning on making something that will make aftermarket fogs look like they fit the space available.
