How smart is the passenger airbag on the 2005?

I know it will not deploy, unless it senses weight of about 40 pounds, but the salesman said that it will deploy with more or less force depending upon the weight in the seat. Is this true? Also how about the driver airbag, is it smart or dumb?

If anything, they are likely to be next generation multi-stage airbags, which deploy with more or less force, depending on the force of the impact. Thus, in a less destructive collision, then deploy slowly. In a full speed collision, they would deploy normlly.I was not aware the 05 was getting these...

Right, the force of the impact, I hope the salesman was right about this being on the 05 Vibe.

Here's something I just found about the Vibe... The salesman told my friend when he was buying his Vibe that the driver's seat sensed how far back the seat was and adjusted the air bag deployment accordingly. Honestly, I blew it off as just a salesman yacking. Maybe not.
http://www.gmtcny.com/airbags.htmlNot sure if that article is correct, as it also has the passenger presence detection thing listed for '03, but that didn't come around until '05, obviously.Glad they decided to implement the passenger presence detection though. If the car could be repaired after the crash, it would save quite a few bucks - no passenger's air bag module to replace, and no shattering of the windshield from where it deployed.

unless the seatbelt is buckled for the passanger seat, the bag won't deploy either I think...

the passenger detection sensor is also designed (or positioned) to disable the airbag automatically if a child seat is (properly) secured in the front seat.

It should be a dual stage airbag. The primary deployment command is about 85%. The second stage is a 15% puff per say.The second stage is deployed a couple of milliseconds after the primary deployment.Logan Diagnostichttp://
