New owner question. Where do most PAINT CHIPS occur??

Looking at getting the invisible paint protection to protect the front since many here have said the paint chips easy. I'm definitely getting the hood and front quarter panel protection. Most of the bumper is taken up with the license plate so I'm skipping that. Is the roof piece (over the windshield in front of the sunroof) necessary. Does this part of the car get chipped for those of you who have owned the Vibe for a while?? Thanks in advance!

I had that "invisible" layer put 12 inches up my hood yesterday to help against stone chips. Cost me about $130 CAD. Don't see to many other places chips occur.

Wow, that's a good deal. I can't even find it online for less than $150 US, let alone having the installation included! Where did you have it done?

Mine are mostly on the front end, but I also have some on the side strips on all 4 doors.

It's not dented- it's just like the paint peeled on the strip? I hope the paint isn't that thin on the rest of the car! >>

The kits are pretty expensive but this guy who does this as a business cuts the sheets tofit as needed. 6 8 and 12inch up the hood. The guy's name is Brian Leach from Auto Trim Design. (519)863-3731 is the business number. Doubt he would go to NY though but if your in this are (Ontario) he could probably do it for you in about 2 hours.

Thanks Mavrik, might be worth a shot. Thanks also to everyone else for the warm welcome and feedback!I love the Vibe so far. Fun, versatile, and really pretty sharp! About the only thing I'm not happy with is how the front bumper paint matches the metal on the car (satellite color). It looks much darker on the bumper and I think Pontiac could have done much better. Other than that, the car has been super and really gets a lot of compliments! Thanks again!

well that was a good idea... damn rocks up here just nail me! i've got so many chips in my hood and front end! perhaps next year after a body kit or i fix the lower bumper, get the whole front end repainted and put something like that on the car. right now, my paint and windshield is so trashed, i don't even worry about it anymore!

Front lip of the hood..hood in general.. I've also had two or three at the front edge of the roof atop the windshield.

Well I got one odd chip up on the side of the car just under the panel I have all those dents on.. Its been there for a long time though and not sure how I got a stone chip there. But this sheet on my hood is hardly visible and you can wax over it.

On the hood of the car....like I have mentioned before; when I had my 99 civic, I had less chips after 4 years than after 2 years with the Vibe. Paint quality is poor on this car. Other than that, I think its one of the better cars I have owned.

honestly, i had a ton of rock chips on the tundra as well... as for my other vehicles, i never owned them long enough to make a diff. mostly less than a year. had the tundra the longest for 2 yrs and so far 14 mos on the vibe. the cougar i had for 14 mos, but 6 mos it was parked in the garage undriven.

What exactly is this invisible paint protection you are talking about. Where would I look to get it at. Everytime I get on here I learn something new and would like to keep my one month old Vibe looking new.

It's made by 3M, originally developed for the front of aircraft and prop blades. You can find it here among many other sites as well:http://www.invinca-shield.comhttp://www.caraxent.comIf you use a discount code of tc240 for the invinca-shield, it gives you 20% off! Good luck. Thanks to this thread, I'm only getting the hood and the front fender pieces. Genvibe is saving me dough!!!

I have a few paint chips on the roof. Probably got them from following a semi or something. They are pretty good sized.

Stop, Redlava, you'll make me spend more money by buying the roof piece too! ;-)

Mavrick.... do you have a pic of the invisible shield installed, and is it noticable at all?

you have to look closely at the hood. you can see where it ends. if it were me, i'd have done the entire hood. being in alaska, i get sprayed w/ rocks from trucks all the time. i have tons of chips and dings in the front end. i managed to score another lower bumper to fix my messed up one now and prob next spring will repaint the whole front end. then i think it'd be a great idea to do this but the whole hood and front of the car!
