heres a hint, its a 1777 pound car, british made, will push the engine to 0-60 in 4.9 seconds!! and runs teh 1/4 mile with the same engine at 13.6!!?if you qeuss Lotus Elise you were right here is the story as on the site A High Revving High Power Engine for the US Version of the Lotus Elise8th September 2003 Nine months before the Lotus Elise goes on sale in the U.S., Lotus Cars Ltd. announces its choice of powertrain for the "Federal" version of the "world’s finest sportscar". The 2ZZ-GE 1.8 litre 4 cylinder 16-valve engine with Variable Valve Timing and Lift-Intelligent (VVTL-i) system has been chosen. This class-leading engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox and mounted amid-ships, has been tuned by Lotus specifically for the U.S. Elise and produces around 190hp. Manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation, the VVTL-i engine was selected after a thorough and extensive study of all the possible powertrain units available. The Toyota engine and gearbox was selected as it is lightweight, with a high power output and most importantly, ideally suited to the character of the Elise. By choosing this engine, Lotus has once again ensured that the pure character of the Elise – a racecar for the road – is exploited. The VVTL-i system affords the car increased low end torque for greater acceleration from low engine speeds, before unleashing the full 190hp at the higher end of the rev range. In January 2003, Lotus announced it will expand its presence in the U.S. with the introduction of a U.S. specific version of the world-acclaimed Elise. U.S. sales of the 2005 Elise are scheduled to begin in mid 2004. The "Federal" Elise will retain the benchmark performance, handling and dynamics that have proven so popular particularly in the U.K. and Europe while being fully compliant with U.S. regulations. The recipient of numerous industry awards and accolades for design, performance, drivability, and handling, the Elise is constructed around a strong, rigid, yet lightweight extruded and bonded aluminium chassis. Consistent with the Lotus design philosophy of achieving performance and efficiency through lightweight, this high tech chassis weighing less than 150lbs allows for a complete vehicle weight of less than 2000lbs. I saw one of those at the LA auto show!.....It looks great!, but it also looks like it weighs 1777#'! ..Sooooo all you GTer's...just knock off a 1000#'s and you can run 13's too!!!!!!!!!

yes but it's tuned to put out 190hp@7800rpm and 138lb ft@6800rpm. One has to wonder why Toyota hasn't done the same tuning? (yeah yeah longevity and all )

Yeah, I actually get Car and Driver and this car out performed the new Mazdaspeed Mista, S2k, and some others. It's jus funny about the fact that a new car comes out by Toyota/Lotus and it smokes everything else out of the water.Inder Singh

I wonder if the 190 is at the wheels or fly-wheel? either way I would love to get 190 out of my 2zz....

I know I knew about this since like 2 weeks after they released t he statement. Ironically about a year before my friend and I were talking about this discussion. We were talking about how if you import an elise or exige that the emissions from the Land Rover engine would not meet standards so we were talking about what engine to put in the car since it was also built for a 1.8 liter engine. He was like most people put in the Integra engine and I said (removed) for when the 2zz is obviously superior and fits in the engine cradle without modification. And here we are years later and the US Spec Elise is using the 2ZZ imagine that I guess I was right lol

Car and Driver has a little paragraphe on the 2zz and the question of it's reliability "There have been durability concerns with this engine, particularly in sustained high-rpm operation. Although some suggest the problem is insufficient oil pressure, the Lotus engineers believe oil temperature is the culprit and added an engine-oil cooler.
