Could be rail dust or other debris that accumulates during delivery.Try a clay bar, it'll get all that crap off.

abyss here too with the same problem. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said to bring it in , but last weekend's Zymol treatment solved my vibe's rough skin problem.

Almost everything you need to know about detailing, but were afraid to ask because the amount of information might overwhelm you!http://www.griotsgarage.com/pd...W.pdf

Hi vibeman...Ya know, when I picked up my Vibe from the dealer after they delayed delivery because they were detailing it, I just rubber my hand over the top of the front quarter panel, next to the hood and noticed it felt, well, not rough but almosy like there was a fine grit to it. There was a scratch further back closer to the rear view mirror, looked like a cat hair almost. In attempts to move it, I lightly scraped it with a fingernail and the paint felt almost like it was chalky though no residue came off. While washing it myself, the wash-mit with soap on it glid over the surface like it was ice, so smooth. I just figured the original texture was in something they used to clean the vehicle.Last weekend I decided to do the Mequire's 3 step clean/polish/wax. After the first step of cleaning the paint... While removing the cleaner, I noticed the surface was smooth but there was that bite to the surface, just like I originally felt when I first picked up the vehicle. After waxing, it was all smooth as silk but that's what I had noticed before I got to that step.I just wonder if maybe what you felt was something they did to it in the process of preparing it for delivery. Maybe a cleaning process that left a grit feeling to the surface? That would seem odd but that's what I noticed with mine...Dave
