Well they are also starting that stuff in Canada but in my home province of Quebec I am sure we will be the last ones to change....You can still smoke in restaurants (smoking areas), bars and clubs.Buildings and gov't workplaces only outside....Montreal airport only international flights and inside a closed room (that is gross and I am a smoker!)I want to quit the habit but am not ready right now, for those of you who don't smoke DON"T START! It is a very hard habit to break. Hell I lost over 90 pounds over 1.5 years ago and have not put it back on but for the life of me can't beat this smoking thing.

I don't smoke and never will and am really glad my town is smoke free. Only smoking allowed is in designated areas/outside. Bars/clubs are nice and clean now. Actually I believe most of Ontario has implimented this rule.

Not here in Quebec. I really do believe we have more of the European laisser faire attitude. I know I will quit one day! Maybe I should move to Ontario

I've never smoked and I absolutely hate cigarettes. I don't care if others smoke, as long as I don't have to smell it. I wish that Pennsylvainia would adopt the indoor smoking ban. Indoor smoking is limited here, but I'd like to see it banned.

One of Pensacola's richest family's took the Phillip Morris company to court and won, resulting in smoking being banned in all public buildings. It sucks not being able to smoke in the smoking section of a restaurant now, and having to walk outside even if it's freezing/raining/etc. There's only two places in all of Pensacola that you can smoke in, Starbucks Pool Hall, and The Daily Grind, an underground hang-out place.

Old Thread, but I didn't want to start a new poll for something that I could find. How many people smoke on Genvibe? I do every now and then, but very seldom. I have nothing against smoking, as long as it's done respectfully. Like don't blow smoke tward people, or if someone asks you to not smoke next to them you don't. However I feel smokign is something we should be allowed to do, and we shouldn't feel like less of a person. In the 60's, it was a social standing to smoke, the rich and famous did it, goverment officials did it, and it was something that was almost a part of life, and now when I want to step outside to have a smoke at a party, or a dinner, I get looked at like I am a bad person. I am the same person even if I didn't smoke, I just have a habbit, the same as the next person.I didn't mean to rant, just wondered who the smokers were.

i started smoking again after quitting for 2.5 years. Back then you could smoke inside some places... now it's nowhere.stupid me, now I have to quit all over again. but as for the poll... i only buy smokes when i get gas so smoking where you buy them is a no-no for me

I am a Non-Smoker.In Madison, they have one of the strictest indoor bans on smoking around. basically the only indoor place you can smoke is in your own home. this means No smoking indoors in ALL businesses, including; cigar bars, bars and taverns, pool halls, bowling alleys, etc. I am in favor of the bans, but here its difficult when you have a metropolitan area and the surrounding communities dont have the ban. You have to pay close attention to city limits as to who and who dose not allow smoking in desginated areas. There is a new pool hall that opened up in Middleton a suburb of Madison and they do allow smoking b/c they are outside madison city limits. In fact this place doesnt even have a Non-smoking section.

Yeah, around here we still have some "small town" gas stations" that have a few tables and you can smoke there, and you will always see some old guys having breakfast and a smoke, or a coffee and smoke in the morning. They aren't hurting any one and they are happy. I think it should be like that. As long as they respect anyone that ask them to stop, and then they can start again when that person leaves.I think it all boils down to we can't have that cause people don't ever think anything is fair. If they can smoke, it's not fair to the non smokers, but if they can't smoke, it's not fair to them..... there really isn't a happy medium on smoking, is there?

I don't want to smell that crap, people with asthma certainly don't want to breath that garbage in. If you want to smoke, fine but do it away from the rest of the world, and pick up you cigarette butts.

I mean, what's the worst that can happen? A couple million in damages and if you survive, skin grafts? LOL!When I did smoke, I'd usually buy my smokes at a quickie mart that allowed for smoking. But I'd never walk into there with one lit, that's for sure. Even if I went to a smoke shop, I still didn't go in there smoking...

Despite a lot of money spent by the Tobacco industry (primarily RJR as I understand) Ohio voters by a large margin just defeated a less restrictive smoking ban that would have allowed smoking in bars, bowling alleys and bingo halls and passed an almost total smoking ban statewide applicable to virtually all public places. Several Ohio cities already had such a ban in place. I would have been o.k. with the exemption for bars but adding bowling alleys where minors are present and bingo halls (I am a bingo worker volunteer) was too much for me. The purpose is not only to protect nonsmoking customers, but also the workers. Sorry if I offend someone here, but smokers in general are an inconsiderate lot. They toss their lit butts out of car windows and empty their car ashtrrays in parking lots for someone else to clean up. When smoking outside a smoke free building they toss their butts on the gound even when recepticles are provided. I no longer have any sympathy for smokers. The next step is to charge them with child endangerment or child abuse if they smoke in a home where there are children.

I think she was just giving you a hard time tcam. No hard feelings. Then again, reading her previous posts maybe not j/k VI smoke now. Just rescently started. I like to smoke in not so high class resturaunts like Coney and Big Boys, but if I go to a really nice resturaunt and a smoking section is availible I normally turn it down just because it ruins the atmosphere of a nice resturaunt and probably would ruin the taste of the food as well.I agree with Jake to an extent. On campus there is atleast one ashtray/garbage can by EVERY door on the campus grounds and even some scattered around the sitting areas. When I see someone throw their (removed) in the grass or on the sidewalk it pisses me off because there is an ashtray RIGHT next to them!!! Put them in the right place!I also agree with Vibr8tr. I am me regaurdless of whether or not I smoke. I am a considerate human being so you do not have to instantly switch into a-hole mode around me and look down on me for smoking. If I'm bothering you with it, ask me to stop or go somewhere else and I will gladly comply. Some people are real idiots about it. Like if I smoke around someone that doesn't, even if it's outside, or at a party, they'll sometimes murmur comments or something and that irritates me just as much. I DO have the decency to leave if you ask me to but you don't have to stand there and insult me or complain about it under your breathe. One more rant here for those that hate smokers. I had asthma as a kid and it's in submission now. When I was younger becuse my parents both smoked I was allways in the smoking sections of resturaunts. The smoke NEVER bothered me or my asthma. SO that arguement can differ depending on the individual.

Man... Big Boys.... hmmmmm..... soooo good....Anyway, I wonder if america will ever come up with a happy medium. I agree that smokers need to be respectful of non-smokers, but on the same note... non-smokers should be understanding of smokers. If we don't work together on an issue liek this, than someone looses their freedom. I know it will never happen, it's human nature to want things to work out best for "yourself", no matter who you are. So until we can agree on the fact that both kinds of people need to sacrifice a little, then this debate will rage on forever.

Anyway, your muttering friends might be assuming that you are another of the inconsiderate smokers who would ignore them or smart off even if they asked that you move or stop. If you truly would move or put the cigarette out if someone asked though, then you are considerate and would seem to be a rarity among most smokers. The way I see it, it's your health, do with it what you want in your car, in your house, and away from other people who don't enjoy the smoke or shouldn't be breathing it...just don't endanger my health if I don't want my health endangered by exhaling the smoke where I'm going to breathe it, or by smoking in an enclosed space with other people around who do not smoke.

I am glad I have someone like me out there. Me and my wife are in the same situation. We came to the agreement that unless we are at a bar or soemthing I don't smoke around her. And at home, the only place I will smoke is the garage or on the porch. In the same respect, she won't bug me to quit, or anything.... she will just let me know if it's bothering her. This way we are both happy, and even though it's not 100% what we want, it's enough that we would not argue over it, and we show each other that we respect each other enough to let the other person have thier own space..... if that makes sence.
