A friend of mine has a 89 prelude all wheel steering with auto for sale. He has done valves, water pump and other maintanence to it. He paid 800 for it plus his time and work. I Not sure how much for me? have not seen it but am thinking about buying it for my son. Any one know any thing about these?

That would be a great car for a high school/college kid. I've never heard of this "all-wheel steering" before. Is that aftermarket?Anyways, Honda's are very easy to work on if anything goes wrong. And since there are so many, used parts are dirt cheap. EDIT: I researched the AWS and that sounds pretty cool. I wonder why you don't see it on new cars these days though.

89 ludes are great cars! The AWS is factory, they offered it on alot of the Preludes all the way up to 1996 here in the states. Like with any car make sure the belts are in good shape. I have owned older Preludes, so if you have any more questions let me know.

Just out of curiosity, how does the 4WS handle on snow?

I owned a 1990 'lude for about 8 years. I loved (LOVED) that car and I wish I never parted from it. But, the need for more room (read: kids) caused me to trade 'er in. I often go onto ebay and dream about finding another 89-90 prelude to buy.THe only thing that went wrong with the car was when the timing belt broke at 70K miles. Bent all of the valves. Honda actually picked up the tab even though it was out of warranty, because they say that the belt should last until 90K miles. My recommendation: don't purchase the car (let me!).

Sounds like a nice car. Do you know how many miles are on it?

Thanks for the help. When I see I will let you know what kind of shape it is in. If he only payed $800 it may be in so-so cond. This guy is a great home mechanic. He has 13 cars that he is playing with or restoring,79 Porsche SC, etc. His wife and neighbors are not happy with him!

I went and looked at the car today. It has 245k miles on it. The head was pulled and the valves done, new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, cooling fan. Air cond. works, engine sounds great, interior needs vacuming but has no rips, the cv joints in the rear are good, couldn't see the front-car sits on the ground, eibach springs. The car is red but may be faded from sun. The body is clean. needs wash and Zymol.Has clean tittle, and new cat conv to pass smog. $1500 What do you think? ok or too many mi.?

well it's and 89... but i would have it completely checked out first. make sure the engine is good all the way around. just cause it sounds good doesn't mean it is. i found that out the hard way when i bot a 92 blazer w/ LOW miles! the engine had a rear gasket leak and the fuel injectors were bad... was $1500 after 2 wks! so worth it to have a good mechanic run thru the car especially the engine and trans.
