New XM SkyFi Mount

Post by ragingfish »

So after my last skyfi mount, which was dash mounted, just fell off one day in my lap while driving, I decided to take the opportunity to once again examine my location options. I decided this time to go with a windshield-mounted system. It uses the same mount as before, but I have a feeling it will hold better to the glass than it did to the dash because of chemicals I may have used in the past on the dash.Anyway, this location is great. Easy for me to see. Being so close to the roof keeps it out of bright light too, making it easy to see during the daytime. Also easily viewed from all seating positions, and is in prime location to be IR controlled from any seat in the car.I'm quite content. I'll get better pics during the day tomorrow.

Nice, Mike.. I didn't think it'd work up there, but it looks like it's not too intrusive..Good goin'!

Hi - I am a new Vibe owner (just got a 2005 yday!), and I have the Sky Fi2 and was looking to eventually replace my factory stereo (single disc, M&T package). I loved the way you did your sky fi mount in this post.. and was hoping you might remember how you did it. What kind of mount did you buy - where from? Also what kind of HU are you using? Was that difficult to hook up? Any advice you could share would be much appreciated! Thanks,Kirsten

He's now using a Pioneer DEH-P8600MP, which is a LOT of stereo. Pretty much any Pioneer with DEHP in the model name is a sure bet, depending on your price range. Installation is pretty easy as well.As for the specifics, well..he'll probably let you know!

It's called the "UltiMount" available from pro fit (http://www.pro-fit-intl.com)Quote »Also what kind of HU are you using? Was that difficult to hook up? As was said above, I'm currently running a Pioneer DEH-P8600MP. The former unit I think was a DEH-P4600MP, but I won't swear to that. I replaced it because the CD player on the original crapped out. Loving the 8600, but as Jahntassa said, it's far more stereo than I really needed. I just loved the display on it, which is why I spent the extra dough. It's not hard to do a *basic* install. Just need the dash kit, antenna adapter, wire harness, and the line level converter...some soldering skill help too. I'm however also running an Audiobahn A4004T amp powering JL Audio XR650.CSi component speakers up front and Polk Momo MM6 components in back. Frankly, I couldn't tell you about that, because Jahntassa was SO kind as to help me (frankly do MOST of) that install for me! (thanks again dude!!!!)
