Today was 'Community Day' at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway(TM). Admission is $5.00 per person. Any licensed driver(TM) can drive their vehicle on The Track(TM) provided you sign a waiver(TM)...You promise not to sue them in the event that you're injured, killed or captured by ChampCar Racing(TM) terrorists. j/kShot from my Vibe(TM) on the front straight, looking toward the Bombardier(TM) tower and down the pit area toward the Start/Finish(TM) line. All trademarks(TM) acknowledged. On second thought, maybe this should be posted in The Humor Forum(TM)

That sounds pretty cool, what is the speed limit?

Officially 30mph. No passing, either. There is a constant stream of traffic, so you really can't get any speed. It's still cool, though. There are safety vehicles strategically positioned in the 'groove' in the corners. (attached pic)Back in the late '80's, I attended the Mayor's Breakfast on opening day. Then everyone who attended the breakfast (at about $50/person) was invited to 'take a lap'. I only reached 80mph--4 cyl Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with my wife and in-laws along. Although passing was discouraged, lots of people did it back then. There were guys in Vettes and Porsche Turbos 'racing' on the backstretch.

Cool! I used to love watching the Indy 500 each year - that is until Tony George and his band of thugs decided they didn't want to share!

Thats cool. I plan on going to Palmdale in the next couple weeks. They have a racetrack to test your time. They have import strip, domestic, and highly modified cars strip. Its like $15 to get in and do as many runs as you want/have time for because its open from like 7-11pm. My brother went a couple weeks ago and went to the domestic track but all the cars in the domestic were really fast he had to switch to the imports strip to have a better chance.

Too bad it was so crowded. I would have loved to be there and have my car going balls out around that track. I was there with my Father about 5 years ago on a little trip to Dayton, OH to the Air and Space Museum. We stopped at the track to go through the museum in the infield. And we took a tour around the track, very neat.

That was cool. I wish I didn't live so far away from Indy, I would get one of the bronze badges and go to practice/qualifying as much as I could!!

Nice pics, kostby! That would be a neat experience. My stepdad got to drive one of his former Fiero's around the track a couple of times at Indy. I think Pontiac sponsored the Fiero Owner's Club of America's national meet that year and got them to open the track for a few hours so the members could drive on it.
