Not quite.Assuming we're thinking of the same commercial, the spot is simply boasting the fact that the hardtop roof can be closed in under 30 seconds. The car does not do it on it's own however. There ARE cars that can automatically lock/unlock as the driver approaches. It's simply a more advanced keyless entry system. The car recognizes a transponder on the driver, and unlocks whenever it is within range.

As soon as you got the key within 10 feet or so, the doors would unlock. Neat feature, but I wonder why it took so long to migrate to other cars?

Wow, that was existent that long ago???I'm guessing there were probably major costs associated iwht the technology that just became significantly more inexpensive in recent years...You still tend to only see it on luxury cars...and the Prius...I'm thinking of rewiring my car to start by push-button.

I remember Buick having rain-sensing wipers back in the '90s... I wonder what happened to that?
