Some Nav System research

I have been reading several different threads about the nav system in the Vibe. Have done some research and it seams to throw some light on several topics. It appears that the data disc is made by a company called Denso. Found a site which shows the different areas that are covered and the amount of detail to expect. It appears that not as much of America is mapped as some may think.http://nav-gm.denso.co.jp/contents/us/usf2.htmlThere has also been talk about the cost of the disc, if someone whats to buy a new one. On the Alpine site (use the drop down menu under products), they sell there update discs for $300. (Also has a coverage section which seams simular to the Denso site). While this will not work in a Vibe unit, it presents an interesting price comparison.http://www.alpine-usa.com/Through e-mails, I am lead to believe the 03-04 Vibe disc part number is 88973143. (Not sure if there will be another update for the 2005s) CHecking with an online part seller, the GM list price is $337.53. Very simular to the Alpine price. The site will sell it for $236.77 but wants $47.25 for Shipping & Handling. Could try offering your local dealer $250 plus tax and see if they bite. I would think asking in the showroom with your salesperson first could help get a better price on a updated disc, then just going right to the parts department. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
