I want new speakers...any recommendations?

I have the stock, 4-speaker stereo in my 2003 Vibe. (Lava,monotone,5-spd manual, 17 inch rims) I LOVE the car. I DON'T LOVE the speakers. I want an upgrade, but I am unsure how much difference it will really make. Has anyone upgraded the speakers? Did it make a real difference, sound wise? How much can I minimally spend, and still make a difference? any speakers that you recommend? any help is MUCH appreciated!

Do you have just the stock sound system? Moon&Tunes? Navigation?Generally, we see people upgrading their speakers with two pairs of 6.5" speakers. I generally reccomend Polk's, and the Infinity Reference series sounds really good, as well. But, your budget is really important too. Generally when you upgrade speakers, you'll soon want to upgrade the radio, as well. This will give you the maximum sound upgrade. You don't want to go -too- low in the spending, otherwise you're not really upgrading much. For example, you can go with these Polk db650's from Crutchfield, and get "Buy one, one pair 1/2 off", bringing the cost to $150.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-D...arch=This is one of the best sounds for the money, In my opinion. If you search around, some other good speakers are any of the Infinity's, JBL, JL Audio, MTX, and Kicker. There are many other brands out there, and if you want, if you find something that more fits the price you're looking for, let us know. We'll give you an honest opinion!

I agree with Jahntassa...those Polks sound very good for the price Even though they're different, I just finished installing two sets of Polk DB 6750's (components), and they sound great. I replaced a pair of Infinity Kappa 62.5 two-way coaxials up front, which sounded great to begin with. You can find a brand new pair on eBay for ~$75-$85 shipped.

l visited Crutchfield's site and they don't show any 6½" speakers (regular or component) that fit the Vibe. Can you tell/show me more information on what would be involved in upgrading to this size?I love Polk's; just want to figure this out.-Glenn

Nope again. The link won't carry over your search results. What vehicle did you specify? Maybe I can replicate it.Just got out of a chat w/Crutchfield tech. His/her comment was that factory grille was only 0.28" above speaker, which limits what replacement speakers are available. Couldn't I just use the aftermarket speaker grille? I'm more worried about mounting depth...

I am no expert on this subject or even close. However, I knew the stock speakers on my 2003 Nav system were very average. For $100 plus $60 inst. I got two Sony Xplod 3-way for the front and I like them a lot. I got them at best buy.Now I want to put a sub in but don't know where to go.Good luck.

They can't be any deeper or they will hit the windows, and this is if you use the stock speaker "cage" as a spacer. (actually I think 6 3/4's will fit also) The rear doors have gobbs of room in them, so depth isn't a problem. The stock rears are 5 1/4, but put in 6 1/2's....See:

Do NOT use the "what fits my vehicle" thing on Crutchfield. It will not work for our vehicles. Just do a "Skip this step" and go to "Speakers and subwoofers", then "6 1/2". Either component or coaxial. For the rears, 6.5, 6 3/4 will work.

Exactly. I'm surprised that the Crutchfield tech didn't even consider that. Personnally, I'd like to avoid irreversable damage to the trim when installing new speakers, but it's not a top priority.

I have the Polk MOMO MM6's in the front doors, and I didn't use the aftermarket grilles. It'll fit under the stock door grills, but you need to cut a bit of behind the grill. If you look at the back of the door, there's a part that sticks out from the door at a perpendicular angle, you need to shave that down, and pretty much anything will fit. If the MM6's fit...pretty much ANYthing should.

Probably should do a search first, but I'm lazy. Quote, originally posted by Psychobroker »most 6 3/4's should fit - i have Polk db6750 components in all doors. Was it not a consideration to replace the tweeters in the front posts?

Was it not a consideration to replace the tweeters in the front posts?Nah, I wanted a clean, uniform look with tweeters on all four doors I didn't remove the factory tweeters, so I guess I now have a 9-speaker system (incl my one MM10 sub lol). And drummer...I mounted them just behind the handles as there wasn't enough room on the front door panels (unlike the rear) to mount them in front like GT_03 had CC do in his rear doors.

ok, so I just went outside and snapped some "quick-n-dirties". Instead of further hijacking this thread, I created a new post HERE.I've got a few adjustments to make, but am very happy with the overall outcome and excellent quality of these Polks!
