2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe service VME covers concers with the sigarette lighter housing pulling out of the dash. Owners may use the lighter housing as a 12-volt power outlet. When the owner twists and pulls the power adaptor out of the dash, the lighter housing will disconnect. To correct this concer the install of a new designed lighter lamp lens assembly will be required. The NEW part number is 88973264. This part is currently available through SOP (special order part) and the new part has an improved locking feature which will not unlock when someone rotates the lighter housing.

Or you could just replace it with a Start button like I did with mine.

so, if i take mine in and show them it comes out, will they order that part and fix it under warranty? cause it's really annoying!

Yup they should cause its a noted concern and a corrected/updated part. Not a RECALL though.

does the replacement part light up? By the description it sounds like it might.

I would imagine it does... cause mine doesn't because it came without a lighter since I didn't get the smoking package. Thank god to cause that green light seems to be annoying for a lot of you. I got just a black cap that opens up to allow a cell plug or such to be plugged in

i like the lighted ring. in fact i wish the ring around the key hole would light up like it did in the tundra. made it easier for putting the key in the ignition when it was dark.

Or you could replace it with a 2004 non-lighter power outlet with a flip-down cover like I did. I even sold the original lighter, outlet, light ring and ashtray on eBay.

Wow, I had no idea there was such a difference between having the smokers package and not.So you guys without the smokers package don't have the ring around the outlet? And you don't get the cool little cup-holder robbing asshtray?

Nope, sure dont. And I got the pleasure of trying to order that little cupholder robbing ashtray (I like to use them for candy wrappers) and much to my dismay the darn thing is like 30 some dollars list. Owner heard that and told the parts guy to order me one gratis. Said something like that should come with the car and certainly shouldnt cost that much. I think even dealer cost is near 20 bucks. But yeah, we have no light ring and just a little pop cover. Thats where I power my XM Roady so it never even gets unpluggedbob

I would think that with the RPMs you guys pull that "loose" change would be securely stowed in only the designated coin holders so as to minimize vibrating parts!

I had this all happen to me. I have a radar detector plugged into that cig lighter, and when I pulled it out, the whole thing came with it. The dealer fixed it under warranty, and I still have the green light.I also use the cupholder ashtray to hold my spare change.

I was so pissed off when I tried taking the car lighter out for my radar detecter that I called and complained to them forever. They were telling me I was doing something wrong which I knew I wasn't. So to make sure I read correctly, I have to purchase the part to replace the faulty part that they sold me? Anyone know the part # and price?

I brought this up to the dealer while I was getting my moonroof worked on today... It was fresh on my mind, since, well, the lighter socket was laying in my console bin from where it came out on the drive to there. Took me a while to get it all put back together the first time it happened, the wiring fell behind the dash. This was the second time, I just decided to let the dealership deal with it.They have ordered a new lighter socket for it...

probably not. you COULD ask for some goodwill assitance......call the 800 Pontiac # and tell them you know there is a fix, and would they supply the part for free.....
