Blast From The Past!

We were cleaning out the attic today, getting rid of tons of crap we don't need...and I stumbled upon this box: Each image can be clicked to see a high-res version. My favorite part is where it says 64K memory. Even the most inexpensive modern cell phones have significantly more capacity than that. Then the price tag. $197. According to the rents, it was expensive for it's time (unsure waht time that was). The actual computer is in the basement, sorta functioning. Just thought it was interesting...

My first computer was a C-64 - then upgraded to a C-128! Woo! Still wish I had it around to tinker with - notice there are still quite a few on eBay. Nice find!

Cool. That reminds me, I have one sitting in its box somewhere as well. I don't think it made it to my house when I moved though. Must still be with my parents. Those were quite the machine in their time. I always hated the wait for things to load and then half the time they would fail for one reason or another. What fun!!

I have on floppy somewhere (the original floppy, 5-1/4") summer and winter olympic games for the C-64...those were by far my two favorites!

My first computer was a Commodore too, but the Vic-20: I had ±5 kb of RAM memory...

Seriously guys, i learned my A B C's from my Comodore VIC-20. I can still sorta remember the little jingle the program played while showing the letters. We had like 20 games, a word processor, cassette tape game add on (remember those 'press play to load'), a bunch of atari-style joysticks and a 5 1/4" floppy drive for it. My dad was computer crazy. Thats how i got started with electronics.

That was my very first computer, it got me started. Nothing beat 5 a side soccer, even though it took forever to load off the damn tape drive.

I started with a VIC-20 and upgraded to a C-64, then Apple IIc, IBM PC-XT, Toshiba T-1100 Plus and on and on. I could've probably bought another Vibe (or maybe two) for the money I've spent on computers and software over the years!

Wow, that is a blast! I remember playing games on my neighbors C64 all the time. They had a cartridge game, I think it was called Blueprint, which was a little intoxicating. Also Impossible mission, which seemed to go on forever, but was still a lot of fun at that age!My first machine was an Amiga 500, made by Comodore. This was some time after the C64 came out, but it still had the CPU combined into the keyboard like the C64. That was an easy computer to use too! I would give anything for my PC to be as user friendly as that one was!

Ahh, the CoCo. That was my first computer... Didn't have any way to save my programs, no cassette or floppy drive. I'd spend hours banging out some BASIC program and then once I turned it off, bye bye! The second was an Apple //c, which I still miss!

what's funny is that i use the c-64 as an illustration when i meet w/ people about their current card systems... some of them have really old obsolete terminals they insist on using and then get upset when the new software won't work. so i tell them it's like trying to put windows xp on a commodore 64. then they instantly understand! LOL

LOL I wonder if it would be possible to put one of those PC mini motherboards inside a c64?Now the power supply would have to be on the outside and an interface for the keyboard would need to be fabricated. Then it might be able to run XP.

Here's my first computer: The Atari 800 XL Completely useless! Because it used Atari BASIC, you couldn't even type in the C-64/Vic 20 programs. It did give me some basic typing skills, though.I used it with a horrible, green monochrome monitor. 'Twas the 80's!
