Very nice pics TRDVibe. We have pretty well the same terrain here in Fort McMurray....just minus the mountains. I miss the mountains. I used to live just outside of Calgary for years and I definetely miss waking up on a nice clear day and seeing the mountain off in the west. Oh well.......I will be back there very soon.

that's MY lawn. and up until 2 wks ago, it was covered w/ a snow burm and sand/salt. that part of the grass is pretty much dead... plus it doesn't help that in the winter, the snow plows come thru and pack the snow all the way back up onto the lawn. rips up that part of the yard. we used to try and save it, but now... it just doesn't matter! in fact, we'll probably be ripping it up this summer and graveling it in.

Very nice pics! Well, I'd rather be in Alaska right now because it's about -3*C with snow on the ground... gotta love that Alberta weather. Now that we got the May snow out of the way, summer is right around the corner -- except for the possibility of the June snow . The days are getting longer here, too. Sunset not until 9:30-10:00 p.m.

Is it just me or is that first pic blurry?Next time, focus on the car - and set your camera to "landscape" so the background comes out clear too.

yes, the first is blurry... and the way the sun was shining, it was difficult to tell and focus. oh well...

i have an awesome camera... and i do know how to take pics. but on the digital w/ the sun in your eyes, it's not so easy to make sure the focus is correct. after 4 yrs of art, graphic design, and photography courses, i somehow can manage taking pics. but thanks for your photo concerns.

Quote, originally posted by trdvibe »and you're more than welcome to come here and take the pic yourself next time. Two tips.1) If your camera can't focus automatically with the sun facing it - then its not awesome. Does it have a manual override? If yes, just set the focus to the approximate distance between the camera to the car.2) A strong fill flash may help too. What camera do you have? Most of these were shot with in the sunset with the camera facing the sun. Fill flash worked great. (I used a Canon S45 - point and shoot digital)
http://community.webshots.com/...YqVMVUsing the same camera on a tripod - I shot these from a beach. Obviously no sun, but pitch black darkness is probably harder to focus that bright light. I just set the manual focus override to "infinity" since the fireworks were so far away. No flash, and I used an exposure time of around 2 seconds per shot.
http://community.webshots.com/album/88181761MqrfwrI'd love to come to Alaska someday - where is East River exactly?

well, i'm not gonna get into it w/ you since you obviously are the photo god. i didn't have the time to set up a tripod to take a couple quick pics w/ my camera. yes, it does have a manual override, but i had the sun in my eyes and my sunglasses on. i have a 2" lcd screen on my digital point and shoot so being able to see whether or not it's completely in focus is a bit more time consuming then i was willing to do. so i will let this be a lesson and NEVER post any pic that could be considered blurry or fuzzy in any kind of way....and i have no idea where east river is. are you talking about east fork? if so that's in northern alaska running b/w 2 national wildlife refuges.

maybe he meant Eagle River. maps.yahoo.com shows Eagle River about 5 - 10 miles out of Anchorage on Route 1.

Eagle River is approx 13 miles north of Anchorage on the Glenn Hwy. We don't really have a route 1 or hwy 1. there are only so many main hwys in alaska... hard to get lost! LOL unless you live in the middle of BFE!

Yahoo called it Route 1, unfortunately I can't see a time where I'd ever be able to embarrass myself by coming up there and asking the locals where route 1 is. Beautiful country up there, nice pics. Almost would make it worth putting up with the winnters

I love how technology changes the way people take photos. Now that everyone has a digital camera - nobody uses the viewfinder anymore. Everyone relys on the LCD (which in lots of cases can be blurry and definetly harder to use in harsh sunlight.)There have been times when I was using my digital camera and I took a shot that looked ok on the LCD, but when I got it back to my computer - it was super blurry.I love that high-end Digital cameras do not have the option to use the LCD - except only to preview pictures that are taken. To properly compose a shot - you really gotta put your face up to the camera and stick your eye into the viewfinder. As TRDVibe has learned - composing with the LCD is a poor substitute. I did mean Eagle River - I don't know why I typed "East". Maybe its my eyes that are blurry.

ya, well coupled w/ bad eyesight.... makes it diff to make sure i've got the focal pts right. but i think i forgot to adjust the focus before i took the pic itself, i was kinda up on this grassy hill, and tripped.... then the camera got pointed up a little. i didn't double check the focus and probably should have. oh well.
