QUESTION: Aftermarket Radio does not play sound

Hello,I just installed a new clarion radio the a 03 vibe. I bought the correct wire harness , the installation kit and the antenna adapater. after completing the installation, I turn on the radio, the radio turns on but you cannot hear anything, everything appears to be working fine but that. I assure that the "red wire, the turn on wire" to the radio has been wired. For testing purposes, I hooked up a tweeter to one line out for the speaker and it works fine, but for some reason the stock speakers does not play in the car. When putting the orginal radio back in, you can hear music! I also hooked the exact same radio to a saturn (the wire harness on the vibe and saturn is the same) and plugged it in, and it works perfectly. Any suggestions on this? What is the impedence on the factory radio. What is the second harness for (the one that has one wire) off the stock radio?

some clarions require an external amp. You should look at the back of the radio. If there is a big aluminum heat sink, then there is an amp inside. If no heat sink, no amp inside and you'll need an external one.

Does your Vibe have the Moon & Tunes package?

If you have the M&T package, you have to feed the remote of the amp located under the passenger seat. Use the blue wire of you HU.

That second harness that has only one wire in it is labeled "mute control." It does not get used.

I'm almost positive that a Saturn uses a different harness. Vibe is Metra 70-2003. Saturn is Metra 70-2002.

As stated above, make sure your remote-turn on signal is hooked up. The blue/white wire on the head unit gets hooked up to pin #B3. You can easily identify that pin, there should be two black wires coming out from the same pin location.

If you do have the Moon & tunes package, there is an audio amp under the front passenger seat. The stock radio sends a power on signal to the amp. If you have this but didn't hook up a wire to do that, then the amp won't get turned on, and you won't get any signal to the speakers. There is a wiring diagram of the M&T setup at
http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...o.gifI think it is labeled as "Antenna Amplifier Positive Voltage" Need to hook that up to something that will be 12V when the head unit is on, such as a power antenna or remote amp signal from the head unit. If you don't have the moon&tunes package, then there is no amp, and I don't know why you would get no sound out of the speakers

I believe, for all intensive purposes, the 80-2002 and the 80-2003 are virtually the same. The main difference being that the 80-2003 has an add-on switched power wire for working in Chevrolet's and other GM vehicles which use DataBus for the "On" signal, and don't have switched power in the actual radio harness.I don't have them with me, but I think the speaker pinouts are the same.I'd be curious to know which aftermarket radio he's trying to use?
