Rear mudguard installation

I just picked up the rear moulded mudguards for my 04 Vibe GT. No word yet on the front mudguards, but the very helpful parts guy says that they will get an updated parts CD at the end of the month. Before I start drilling holes, I noticed that 2 screws will be going thru the edge of the cladding (near the lower, back edge of the fender) and the lower plastic fasterner will be replaced by a nut and bolt. My questions are: 1. Has anyone experienced any cracking of the cladding?2. It may be overkill, but do you think a thin gasket placed between the cladding and fender is a good idea?3. Do I need to dab any kind of metal protectant in the newly drilled holes?Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The holes are only made into plastic, so there is no worry of rust - if I recall correctly. I did mine 2 yrs ago.

yep...just plastic...ur good to go...it works fine the way it is....i have beat mine to death for 2 years and they are fine...no cracking or anything....just rough on the bottom of the flaps from rubbing on concrete when there is low clearance.

my experience with them has been pretty much the same as phil's. No probs, just wear from scraping bottom.

Thanks for all your input, guys! Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit now. Had a bit of snow last night (jeez)
