Spinning Wheels?

Has any put those wheels that spin on their Vibe? I saw some on this smokin' Mercedes and talked to the guy about them. His were the custom ones with the Mercedes emblem doing the spinning. They were hot.If you don't know what kind of wheels I am talking about, here is an URL that shows the wheel spinning.

That is probably why around here about the only people you see driving with them are the NBA players and the drug dealers. Although, from what I hear, ~1K is pretty inexpensive for these kind of wheels. I saw on MTV Cribs where one of the NFL players spent 10K a wheel.

Well, I built my own "un-spinners". They don't turn even when the wheel does, they just hang there with the Pontiac dart in the vertical position all the time.(the decals are just taped on in this pic, but it's no Photoshop job, the wheel is actually turning at 160 KPH (100 MPH) while the center just floats stationary. I get some strange looks when people notice something's funny...

Well, I don't know about the "NBA/Drug Dealers" and their spinners, but I did mine because A. I needed some kind of a center cap and B. I wanted to see if I could make them work. They cost me ten bucks for the decals, a couple of hours design time and a bottle of rye for my pal who did the machining for me at his work.

Maybe there's something wrong with your system access, Hope. My fist post (4th from the start of this thread) reads:"Well, I built my own "un-spinners". Attachment: DSCN2123.jpg (135686 bytes, downloaded 14 times)"and in the original, the "DSCN2123.jpg" is underlined as a link, whick if single-clicked, opens the pic. (As you see, 14 pepole have done so) I've never tried to paste a pic straight on the thread, but will take a crack at it after I post this. (Maybe one of our guru-grade internet experts can explain what's going on...) UPDATE: I was misled by Stang's words above and didn't realize he had posted another link to the spinning wheel pic. (I thought his "eyemuffs" reference had something to do with your super new avatar pic, but I guess he meant you needed to take them off to see the link ))

OK, on to Mike's question. (Although a good magician never explains his methods...)The inner secrects are revealed in this pic:From the left, an adaptor that fits in the wheel centre, a retaining plate that holds the bearing in place, the bearing, a bolt which fits snugly in the bearing and whose position is adjusted by the two nuts to correctly position the head, which is drilled for a countersunk stainless Allen bolt and finally a strip of stick-on tire weights, to create a one ounce "heavy side" on the center cap, which is machined at a 2 degree taper from edge to center so's not to look like just a slab of aluminum.PRESTO!

I thought spinning wheels were cool when they first came out- but I really can not stand them now!And if you ride in a car that has a cheap set (still very expensive) the whole car shakes because it is un-balanced!Like Madbills creation there are wheel companies that have wheels they call floaters that are stationary while the car is moving- I think Foose and DRIV have a few of them

Personally I think those spinners look ridiculous. I aspecially laugh when I see people around town here driving crappy cars with those on. I just saw a 1999 or 2000 Toyota Corolla with them. Those rims, if they are good ones, are worth more than the entire car is. They are probably cheap knockoffs they got at Pep Boys for $300, but still, come on people.

Not yesterday, just too ghetto and expensive to truely be yesterday's fashion.I've seen a few spinners that actually looked like they BELONGED on the car.. once on an Expedition, and another on a MonteCarlo, I think... (both newer models). It just happened to be that those spinners didn't look like (removed)...so..it was a rare occurance.
