Oil burning smell after lift

Howdy, got a question for your fellow GT owners. I did a search but couldn't come up with anything...Whenever I get in the mood for a little speed, nothing satisfies like the shriek of the 2ZZ-GE in anger. I don't do all that often (must be getting old) and I still long for buckets more of torque, but still, nice. Anyway, from day 1 every time I dip into the throttle and hit lift, once the revs drop down to more sane speeds, I get this noticable odour of either oil or fuel burning, almost like a "too rich condition" of a smell. I know the 'pooter dials up a richer mixture for lift, could this be causing this smell? Anyone know or experience this?Ciao!

hmmm.. good point. I haven't thought of that, I'm not noticing any clutch slipping or shudderring or anything like that. But still, at those revs....Thanks for the tip!

I have noticed a smell as well at times. Bear with me on this...it may be a stretch but if you eat asparagus....you may know what I am refering to. After eating asparagus, your urine will get a funny smell to it...almost kinda' nutty in smell (serious now....no joking). That is the same smell I have noticed after hitting lift sometimes. It wasn't really pungent or pronounced but it was noticable. I will be picking my car up from the dealer tomorrow after having my clutch, pressure plate, and release bearings replaced (under warranty ). I will let you know if I still can smell that smell at all after lift.Jim

when my car was new i used to get a smell, it probaly was the clutch. That is probaly what you are smelling. Mine went away after the first 500 or so miles.

I took my car in at aroud 33,000 miles to have some things looked (squeeks and such) being as the warranty was going to expire. I told them that I had noticed that I was smelling clutch burn quite often when I gave her some extra gas to do something like scoot across an intersection or something. I would smell it even though I wouldn't spin the tires or anything. My service rep at the dealership said that being as most of my miles were highway (94 miles round trip to work) and the fact that is was engaging kinda' high up on the pedal travel, they were going to replace my clutch, pressure plate, and release berring under warranty. I was stoked to hear that....especially as the clutch is usuanlly a non-warranty part. I get her back today in a couple of hours Jim

I get a similar smell also. I don't use the lift all that often, usually with on-ramps. It isn't a strong smell, and it doesn't bother me enough to warrant any action.

I had my clutch replaced at 9,000 miles.. and i was wondering if he had the same experience as me... it was only a question... no need for the little sarcastic remarks. Done ranting.

Mine went away after the first 500 or so miles.I got over 24K km on it, and if anything, I'd say the smell is getting worse! What I should do is slowly get the revs up and hit lift, rather than punch it in second gear. Perhaps the sudden increase in the rate of revs is causing the clutch to slip a little, hence the smell... Kinda reminds me of funny cars, their clutches slip all the ways down the strip...Not that my car can accelerate like that, but it's nice to dream
