Radio Trim

Does anyone else have a problem with the trim around the radio flaking off? I noticed a small 'scratch' on mine on the very bottom skinny part so I decided to rub it to see if it was really true. Lo and behold, the paint came off faster than a lottery scratch-off. Now the whole bottom is pretty bare, showing the black plastic underneath. I wonder if that's a 'normal wear' item according to the dealer?

I have not had any problems with the trim. I assume you are talking about the silver/metalic parts, right?

Yeah, I forgot to add that. It's the silver trim piece around the radio. I didn't know if this was a common problem or not. I'll just have to take it in and see what they say.

Where could I pick up some overlays? That would be nice.

I've gone almost 30,000 without a scratch on any of the chrome or silver trim, then the dealer gets a hold of the Vibe... Yikes. My baby left the shop battered and bruised today. When they replaced the radio (for the second time) they somehow scratched the trim between the recirculate and dummy buttons, and there's a large bubbled up area where the plastic has been deformed (obviously from trying to pry the trim panel off) above the hazard and rear defrost switches, where the trim meets the dash. Now today, what should have been a simple cigarette lighter socket replacement, ended up in tragedy. The corner of the trim around the AC outlet has a big gash in it, the trim is scratched in several places around the lighter. There is a chunk taken out of the plastic around the fan speed knob. The trim around the shifter is scratched, and where they tried to pry the shifter trim loose, ended up nicking the shifter console on both sides. So, I get lotsa new parts! New radio trim, new trim around the HVAC controls, around the cigarette lighter and AC outlet and shifter... Plus the entire shifter console. I'm not too bent out of shape about it, these things happen - the Vibe's plastic bits inside don't seem to hold up that well to abuse anyway.

Left the Vibe down at the dealer earlier today and they replaced all that trim. Got to drive an '04 GA for the day. When I got back to the dealer, not only was the dash looking great, the car was spotless inside and out. Nice of 'em. They also fixed a couple places on the glove box door and passenger's air bag cover that I screwed up in one of several failed cargo-carrying attempts, free of charge. Now I've got the '04-'05 style trim around the radio, with the 'MAX A/C' lettering raised from the surface.
