Conquest Rebate

Dave Gill Pontiac, Columbus, OH ad today $17,165 MSRP - $1,000 discount - $2,000 rebate - $1,000 Conquest rebate for owners of any non-GM vehicle, net $13,165. They might also designate this as the prodigal son reabate. The "loyaty" rebates for present owners from the same mfgr make sense, but I never understood why a company would discriminate AGAINST their loyal customers. The "conquest" rebate was only listed for the VIBE, not other Pontiac models in their ad.

It's obviously a way to lure non-GM buyers over to the dark side...

Conquest, indeed. GM is rewarding you for buying a TOYOTA in Pontiac's clothing. Think about THAT one for a while!

Well I think that they are aiming the discount at traditional import buyers who are on the fence between the Vibe and Matrix. It makes a great selling point to those people to tell them that it is essentially the same car as the Matrix, but they can get a Vibe with more equipment for less money.

But why discriminate against loyal owners of gm? Why not just let everyone in on the offer?

They have to have received some kind of market research that showed that doing this would cause a favorable sales condition for them in their immediate area. I agree with you here on this one, but they are looking to sell cars so something must be showing them that this is one way to sell more cars.

I'm just happy to get it. My Vibe comes in this week and with the 2k instead of 0%, 1k GM card, and 1k Conquest. my 04 Vibe is right at 15k out the door. I got two Fords and a Jeep in the driveway so I will show them whatever they want. Funny that I sold a Gran Prix to replace with the Vibe so the only Pontiac I had is gone. Bob

You probably are too young for this, but 3 times in my life (93, 96 and 98) I had a new car titled jointly with a newly graduated son or daughter and got the college grad rebate too. Probably would work with the military rebates as well. Once it was for my purchase of a Voyager van and my son was buying a GM Tracker so he got his college grad rebate from GM and I got it from Chrysler.

Haha, older than you think but not there yet. I'm 37 and unless I get a discount for graduating a daughter from potty training, I probably have a few years to go. My dealer already thinks I am stealing the car anyway so one more discount or rebate and he would likely slap me. Gotta love living outside a small town.Bob

I don't see why they would really care, they're getting the money anyway. When you get rebates and incentives like these, the factory pays that money to the dealer instead of you so they shouldn't care where the money is coming from, they're selling the car and getting paid full price for it anyway. They should be happy to be able to entice you with deals like this.

Its just all good natured ribbing from the dealer. Actually I would consider him a friend. He assumed I would take the 0% and I went out and got a credit union loan at 3.09% and took the 2k. Then I remind him that I have a GM card and to count those earnings. Then I tell him what I am reading here about the Conquest rebate so he goes and checks that out for me. I live in a small town and my sales guy splits time between dealerships. All 3 are owned by 1 guy. I squeeze him every time I buy a car. He knew long ago that I aint paying more than 100.00 over inovice and dont even tell me about the advertising fee. I agree not to ask for the holdback and he agrees not to even mention MSRP. He knows that when I walk in, I already know what I want and that I likely know more about the particular model than he does. I didnt even test drive the Vibe until after I signed the order papers. I hated dealerships until I moved here. All the pressure and the BS when buying a car in NoVa made it a regrettable experience. Now its a walk in the park. Bob

Well I'm glad to hear that you've found a place to have great car buying experiences. Many here would have liked to be in your shoes when going to purchase a Vibe. I can't complain about the deal that I got, and so far I've been happy with the car overall. Good luck with your new Vibe!

Just bought my new Vibe yesterday, and that $1000 Conquest Rebate was a factor, to be sure. Used to own a Chevy (Celebrity Eurosport) and grew to hate GM. But now, got the best of both worlds: Toyota reliability and Pontiac styling. I'd say they paid well for my switch back.-Glenn2004 Vibe: Abyss, Power Pkg. , Auto, Antilock, 16" Alum, Sport Pkg., XM Satellite Radio...and more to come!

I got an new e-mail from the MSN Auto Site today and checked their rebate section to see what was goingon. They list -0- rebates for the VIBE. Lots of bad info out there.

There could be several reasons why the rebates aren't showing up on the MSN website. I know it's always best to check with the dealer anyway. Even when I was buying my Vibe, the website I was using to look up info and the Pontiac website were not listing the rebates that I was able to get on my Vibe at the time I purchased it.
