Engine swap possibility?

The new 2005 Toyota Scion tc has a 160 horse VVT-i DOHC 4 banger, and the car comes with an optional 4 speed electronically controlled transmission. Sounds like a possible engine swap for base auto Vibers who want a bit more bang perhaps?

sounds like a good idea, but why would you change a perfectly good toyota engine that will last you miles and miles and miles? You can get the base to 160 hp by just adding a supercharger too. Just my thoughts...

It doesn't sound like the extra few horses you would get is really worth the effort. Its not only a matter of swapping an engine block, but the accessories if they are different, transmission if its different (even just for the gearing and ratios inside). Then there is the nightmare of the computer and wiring harness. Sure it can be done, but if I were going throught that trouble I would want a lot more HP than 160 when I got done!Maybe an S/C version of the TC engine would be more enticing!

but remember, S/C = at least 92 octane, the camry engine doesn't.

Just my thoughts...First point, the Scion IS a Toyota...Though yeah, I'd think just getting the S/C would be a little more cost effective than reinventing the wheel...

Sure you could get the extra horse from a S/c, but if you were to add the S/c to a more powerful engine, you'd have even more ponies. At any rate I think I'd rather use the 4 cyl. or flat 6 cyl. VVT-i engine from a Lexus, which according to a friend (8+ years as an import mechanic) either can be swapped in

Well, once I get my dad paid back the rest of the way I may just well be doing that Lexus swap The friend of mine with the hook-up on parts said as long as I pay for the parts or materials needed, he'll do the work/installation 100% free, which would include an engine swap. I can't wait for the day when I can get THAT done
