Well, i finally found a website that has the Optima yellow top batteries for a decent price, but i'm not sure which one i'm suppose to get, i know it is the 51, but then there is a 51R. Tried to call, but not open til Monday. If you are thinking about a battery upgrade, this is about as good as it gets for the price.http://www.tna-sports.com/inde...id=30

The difference in a 51 and 51R is the post polarity configuration. Check your Vibe. See what post is where and then get the post config that matches. In other words, if the positive post as you look at the posts, is on the right side get the 51.Id go check my Vibe, but its not here.

I'm pretty sure we need the 51R. I was lurking around MO and found a few things about it. Will check tomorrow for sure. Thanks for the help

I emailed Optima a while ago about it, asking which was the right one, they told me we need the 35R.

see that's not even a option for the yellow-tops. I checked the dimensions of our OEM one and they are near perfect to the 51 series. The Red-Top are the group 35. This all confuses me

Ahh yes, you're right. I reread my note: Red Top 35R. Maddigital, a matrix owner, has an optima yellow. I will see him tomorrow actually. I'll find out which one he has and let you guys know...

The 35R is the one also recommended for the Corolla and is probably a wimpy 400 CCA, not much of an improvement from the Vibe AA battery.

I'm pretty sure the yellow top is Group 51R. Did a little more research and it seems right. Almost same size as the Diehard one for the Vibe, and our terminals are Reversed . I guess i'll place my order and see what happens.

Well, i could not be happier. i recieved my Optima Yellow Top Group 51R yesterday, and got to install it today. It helped out my system amazingly. I also love the look of it, plus 625 cranking amps doesn't hurt either. The battery is a smaller than the OEM one, but fits just fine. Here are a couple pics.

It looks great. I like the inline fuse set-up attached to the battery hold down, very slick.

Per the Optima Sites: http://www.optimabatteries.com...x.asp and: http://www.optimabatteries.com/faq.asp#q12, the Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery, recommended when heavy, prolonged demand (e.g. operating a killer stereo with the engine off) is anticipated. For typically starting, lighting and ignition, they recommend their Red Top.

Are these the batteries Costco now carries?

Yes, they had a huge rack of them at our nearest Costco. (don't recall for sure, but I think the price was the same in Canadian dollars as US list, namely $139.00.)

OLD THREAD: Sorry guys, had to dig it up! Finally ditched my stock battery as i've completely killed it a few times, and finally had the money!So I went out and got a Yellow top, costly, but worth it! I've been sitting in my car with my stereo and carpc runing for about 50 minutes now and the voltage hasn't dropped a BIT!I ended up getting the 34/78 at Advance Auto Parts. I had to bend the stock positive wires so it'd reach, but it fits fine. I do need to find/make a riser or something so it'll be high enough to actually be held by the battery strap..but leaving the handle on the optima, combined with the strap, seems to be working.Just FYI
