Heyz...I was looking online for a keychain that was like the volvo style, where the key swings out like a switchblade.Well I found someone that makes them, but he states that you cant get the keys made for the pontiac vibe.I was looking further and I found a compnay that makes a butterfly knife style keychain.Anyone know if its possible to get the volvo style or should I just get the butterfly design?

welcome to genvibe, elrodvoss! as for the volvo style key which i believe is similar to the vw and mercedes... is like a square and then pops out from the side w/ the keyless entry functions built in... is that what you are talking about? i don't believe you can get them. also, don't our keys have some kinda a magnetic chip or something in them? don't know. i've seen the switch blade ones you're refering to. see them on ebay all the time.if you like it, then go for it!

the magnetic chip thing is all false a standard key cut at a hardware store will work so if you can get these vovlo type keys witht he correct blade made that would work

I dont think our key has a chip I might be wrong but when I had my Monte Carlo the chip was on the key and its not hard to see it was on the sides but its not on the Vibe. Unless its inside the key itself.

I thought that there was something about the composition of the key that a module in the ignition ran a very small current through the key and if the resistance was not within the programmed tolerance range the ignition system would not operate. There is definately more to the keys than just a plain metal key that you could buy in a hardware store 15 years ago. Insurance would not have given me a passive theft deterrant discount on my Vibe if there was no passive theft deterrant system on the car.

Had a key made at Ace Hardware a while back. $.99. Works fine! There is no chip in the Vibe key.

Well, I did a search on ebay. Here are some of the auctions that I found. When I asked him, I asked if it was possible to make a key for the Pontiac Vibe and/or with the keyless remote. His responce was impossible. But I think he was refering to the combo, I never got a responce on just the key with no remote.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...40016This auction had 6 days left at the time of this posting. I see ALOT of the switchblade/romotes. Exactly how difficult would it be to reprogram say another remote to recieve the vibe signal?I would even think that you could "gut" out the VW/audi remote and place the vibe guts inside, but the vibe remote goes: (top to bottom)LockUnlockHatchThe Audi goesLockHatchUnlockSo you would have to relabel the buttons (which may look cheesy).Anyone have any ideas or am I just dreaming for that 1 perk that is not possible to get (cause that woudl be sweet as hell, to just go "flip" key. Lets go to club. Ok, ill drive *click, flip* Sweet that was cool.ya, im a dreamer. If no one has any ideas, I can tag one off ebay for 10$ and see what I can do to it.
