I wish I had a copy to post up here with all the words but it starts out in bold letters with GENERAL MOTORS blah blah SAFTEY OF VEHICLES IS BETTER THEN TOYOTA! It has a whole list of cars that are safer then Toyota cars... the one on the top of the chart being the VIBE! Now correct me if I am wrong but other then outside appearance, the VIBE and MATRIX are the same? I wonder how our Vibe is safer then the Matrix...

Don't quote me on this but I think the body design may contribute to that, one of the safety tests is how far the body travels from it's original position, so if the body is slightly different (and it is) it may not travel as much as the matrix. OR maybe I am talking out my (removed) (ala Ace Ventura)

Allllll righty then....heh well I was just confused by the safety chart and that it seemed we were knocking down our sister vehicle.

Does that sound like a reasonable explanation? It sounded good to me.

If individual Vibes and Matrices are equally safe designs, the Vibes are safer overall, because there are more of them on the road!

Vibe have: standard "Mouldings - bodyside"(not talking about cladding)and if we get on top... a "roof rack" with cross bars !!! That's why Vibe is "much" safer ...

I believe that the Vibe and Matrix have identical safety ratings. These cars are largely based off of the Corolla which scored very high in safety as well, so all 3 should be about the same if not identical in the safety ratings.

I really don't think that there is any structural difference between these cars. When it comes down to the nuts and bolts of it, I honestly don't think that there is a big enough difference between the Vibe and Matrix to claim that one is safer than the other. I just don't see any integrity to that claim. If there is any difference, it would be so negligable that I doubt that it would beat the statistical margin of error of the testing.

If the "safety record" is based on statistics, it is possible that the difference is the driver. Perhaps Matrix drivers are worse drivers, or that average age of Matrix driver is younger and more accident proned.

Well it really wouldn't depend on how accident prone the drivers are, but on how many acutal accidents involving bodily injury to the occupant occur. But an excellent point anyway. Yes, it depends on what data is collected to determine the safety ratings. I was actually assuming that they were using crash test data.
