Multi-chromatic paints ain't cheap! And I don't even want to think about what the treatment costs to get LEATHER to do the same thing!Very cool though -- I'd opt for it if I had the cash.....

My Mustang friend said this may be the last S/C Cobra they produced. He says there are rumors that when they produce a Cobra off the new platform, it will have a slightly less powerful N/A motor in it, partially for insurance reasons. Not sure if this is true or just BS, just what he has told me.That color looks good, but you really need to see it in person to really appreciate it!

my gf's dad is a painter and there is a paint that is called chrome illusion it's 350 per quart. He told me that a quart of paint for our vibes is generally 60. He works as a painter for Shelton Pontiac in Rochester.

That sounds awfully cheap for factory quality paint. Maybe its a wholesale price. Generally a factory quality paint such as on the Vibe would cost between $600 and $800 a gallon ($150-$200 a quart). The cheap stuff around $250 a gallon ($60 or so a quart) will look good initially but will fade and be toast after about 2 years. If that is what a dealer is paying, he must be quoting you wholesale prices. Now $350 a quart for the special paint, if that is a wholesale price I'd hate to see the retail on it!

That is really awesome, I'd love to see it in person! I saw one at one of our largest local car shows about 5 years ago that Ford used on the Mustang and the Lightning. They were really cool, but this looks even better.Quote, originally posted by Altus »And I don't even want to think about what the treatment costs to get LEATHER to do the same thing!I really doesn't sound like it takes any more effort to do this to the leather than regular leather coloring. They explain it in the article on that site that was linked to. The paint shouldn't be terribly more expensive either, it's just an additive that they add to factory paint. Just DuPont in charging a lot for it I guess to try and recover R&D money on the project. Plus, Ford will mark it way up because its a novelty thing.

I don't know guys, it's all skin deep. It's a 25 year old chassis. So the day you buy it, you're driving an old car. This is one of the reasons I hated my Cavalier. Chassis, suspension, transmissions, engines, all based on engineering almost as old as I am. Cool paint, but I'll take a line from one of my favorite movies here(Christine), "You know Pepper... you can't polish a turd."

Here is a question: Would you really be willing to buy a new Mustang now, Cobra, Mach 1, GT, or whatever model knowing that by this fall, the redesign will hit the streets! I know there are awesome deals on them, and as I said before the Cobra may be the last really fast one seen for a long time, but these cars are old underneath. Not only will the body be antiquated, but the new chasis is bound to be a thousand percent better. Even with the big discount, I think I'd rather wait and spend more to get the updated car.Still, I am not sure I could test drive a Cobra and not walk out of the dealer without buying it!
