Under-dash rattle maintenance/prevention

While investigating specific under-dash rattles and squeaks, I noticed at least one, so far, possible rattle point that may or may not be an issue on your vehicle (I know this is one on mine). If you remove the glove box door (see page 6-22/6-23 in your manual) and look up under the dash, you should see the following wire sheath:As you can see the yellow wire sheath (looks white in picture due to brightness) in the center of the photo. With electrical tape, I taped the sheath to the black circular air duct thus preventing the sheath from contacting the duct when the vehicle hits bumps, vibrates, etc..Note, the electrical tape is pointed out between the 2 white arrows. Of course you could use any other type of tape or padding in this situation and be effective.I took a long enough piece of tape and wrapped it around the entire duct to ensure the tape would not just fall off if it gets extremely warm or cold.Hopefully with further testing, this may remedy you of one of the rattles coming from under the dash. If I find anymore, I will add an additional post.

Thanks for that info, I'll check that out as mine has a vibrating noise that seems to be coming from behind or around the glove box. How difficult is it to remove the the glove box? The cabin filter is back there too right?

I have yet to develop any of the various rattles discussed on this forum but am keeping track of them for what to do when they start buzzin.

Carefully pull the little lever off. Then, pull up on the bottom of the glove box, basically, just grab the box and pull toward you carefully, it should pop out. I usually then just drop the box down, but you can push in where the tabs are on the sides to pull it free.

Jahntessa explained the process very well above. As an addition, check out your 2004 Owners Manual, page 3-23 for the same process.

One other possibility for a rattle that I noticed Saturday while installing my new STB:The black plastic vents between the hood and the windshield might be loose. I noticed when I was installing my STB and bumped the vent with a wrench. It moves back and forth 1/4" easily in all directions. It is only held on with plastic retainer screws, but I was able to tighten them a little. The rattle from the dashboard/windshield area has definitely quieted down a bit.
