what to do........?

i had my vibe for about 6 mos or so before i got married. my wife never really liked or disliked it. so here i am in playin in the sand in iraq...all of a sudden she tells me how much in love she is with the vibe. thats great...but, we planned to get another car when i get home since the vibe is all we had. id keep the vibe and she'd get something else. well now she says she wants the vibe and i can get a new car. shes laughs when she says it, but i know she really does want that car for herself. now, the way i look at it, thats MY car even though in her eyes it OUR car. the problem is, yeah i am sure i could find a few other cars id love to drive, but...the money is an issue. i was hoping to get a small cheaper car for her. remember i put lots or time and money into the vibe as far as mods go, just look at my car domain page. so i dont really know how to handle this. i dont wanna be an (removed) to her and start a fight, then again i dont think its entirly fair for me to drive a little cheapo car when i put all the that time and effort into the vibe. any idea in how to handle this? she thinks i should get a truck, i wouldnt mind one, but i dont would want a big one, plus gas in speandy on those. HELP!

Buy her a Vibe and you'll both be happy and you keep your moded one and she can have the new one? Maybe get it during some sale specials or something to cut costs? Or buy an Aveo... heh

Have her go test drive a Mini Cooper. My girl drove one and now thats all she talks about, ecsepcially the Cooper S model. I have to admit when I drove it, it was fun, kind of go-cart like, and it handle much better than a stock vibe. Plus the priceing is close.

She likes it now because she is driving it and is familiar with it. Just take her out to look at some cars, and if she decides she still likes Vibes, pick one up for her.

I say either buy another Vibe (for her or for you, depending on what you get ) or go with GTX's idea and have her drive a Mini Cooper. Those things are bad a$$!

well, good to know she loves the vibe. but, if i were you, i'd have her check out some other cars in the same price range. maybe she'll find something either diff or similar. what about the new mazda 3? or vw golf? i dunno. but if she still likes the vibe, i'd look for a new one on sale (and they've got all those great rebates and such) and give her the "new" one so you can have yours back. then she can pick out what color she wants that way you both get what you really want. or as someone else suggested, get a GT or a used GT.

Make her get her own car! Suzuki makes a hatchback that's supposed to be a contender. I think the base model has like 160 HP! I think it's called the Aereo hatchback or something. Otherwise, like others have mentioned, Mazda 3, Focus Hatchback, Aveo. Take her around to look/test drive other cars. Once she tries a few different cars she may decide she likes another car better.

Just be glad she fell in love with YOU first, and the Vibe second! LOLLook for a nice used Vibe or Vibe GT when you get home. You'll save the 30% first year depreciation, and you'll both be happy! Thanks for serving the US of A, by the way!

Unless you find a private seller I doubt very very much that you will be able to buy even a 1 year old VIBE with as little as !2,000 miles for $3,000 less than a new one (after the discount/rebate on a new one).I remain convinced that in this market new is a better value than used unless you happen to find a good car offered by an private owner. Used car advocates state that a new car declines in value 25% when it is driven off the new car lot. I believe used cars bought at a dealer also decline in value 25% when driven off the lot.Dealers make a couple hundred on a new car. They make a couple thousand off a late model used car.

At the risk of being banned form this site, as a former owner of a PT Cruiser I think the PT would make an excellent companion for your VIBE. I loved my pT, after 3 years it was just time for a change. They are practically giving the PT's away at this time. I just could not have two of the same car in the family - too boring. If I were a polygamist I wouldn't want to marry twins - I'd want two DIFFERENT spouses. OR the new Mazda.

Hell yeah! I'd marry twins if they were hot! That way if one of them is grumpy/in a bad mood/ticked at you for whatever reason, you could always snuggle up to the other one and it would be like the same person anyway! What could be better? Triplets maybe? LOL! I say look for a used Vibe for her. You've already got yours modded and I'm sure you want it back especially now that you've customized it a bit to be yours. I've seen some ridiculously low prices on some used Vibes. Even if it's got some miles on it, everyone always says these engines will run forever so if that's true, then there's little risk involved. Plus, if smaller things go wrong, it seems you have the ability to fix them yourself which is MUCH cheaper than taking it to a shop/dealer. Maybe have her look at a Matrix too, since they're so similar to the Vibe. Tell her it's essentially the same car if you spot a good deal on one.

Agreed, dealers CAN make a killing on late model used cars. Not all of them choose to do so. Meeting sales quotas, moving existing inventory, and spiffs on specific models also play a part in how good a deal you get on any given car on any given day.In February, I got my one-owner '03 with 22,600 miles from a Pontiac dealer for US$13,100 plus tax. 'Private party' book value on the car was about $13,500, and trade-in was about $12,500. It had been sitting on the used car lot for several months (a manufacturing town with lots of lay-offs), so the dealer was ready to move it, before he had to pay inventory taxes on March 1st.Original '03 sticker was about US$19,500. A comparable '04 stickered at $20,000, and was offered at $19,200, before rebates totalling $1,500 at the time, for a net of $17,700, plus state sales tax.I 'saved' $4,600 off the best deal I could find on a new 04, and an additional $276 of the difference, because Indiana charges sales tax on the selling price after discounts, but BEFORE manufacturer rebates.Agreed, that I still suffered 25% depreciation, because it's now a two-owner car, but I 'lost' 25% of $13,100, or $3,275, not 25% of $17,700, or $4,425, so I 'saved' another $1,150.The week before, I was offered an '03 GT with 32,000 miles for $12,545, but I didn't buy it because that dealer was a total snake. Book value was about $15,995, and '03 sticker was about $22,000.Many central Indiana dealers ARE advertising used '03 base Vibes for $15,000 to $16,000, and yes, at that price, you're better off buying new.

But remember that those are the advertised prices and dealers rarely expect to actually get those kind of numbers on their used cars. You could drive one off the lot for less than the advertised price (and significantly less sometimes if your timing is right as in your case).

I would suggest that you check out the Saturn Redline. The ION should be great, and the VUE would give you a larger vehicle.

Saturn Ion Redline, Mazda 3, Suzuki Aerio, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, all cars you might want to look at for you or for her.If it was me? Well, between girls and my car, there's only one love in my life, and the girls have learned to accept that "What could be better? Triplets maybe?" Asian twins. Or better yet.. Japanese twins

The only probably with the ION Redline is that they are only going to be making (I think) only 1000 of them the first year, so its going to be hard to find one. You can get a base Mini Cooper for $16,000 and they handle way better than our cars. I have already told my girl as soon as she gets her Cooper S I taking it straight to the track, all in the name of seeing how much better the Coopers lap times are to the Vibes lap times

you said you had planned on getting a small, cheaper car for her, and mainly the cars named have been new and not exactly cheap (That or else I'm a poor broke******* ) but the Civic HB's are dependable cars, they have cargo room, and have a HUGE area for aftermarket tuning (No, I don't mean ricing it out, but actual engine work). Just thought I'd add that as an afternote (Edit) Word in asterisks wasn't a bad word, least I didn't think so The literal meaning is a person without a father, but I just used it in the slang way, oh well

Now that's an awesome idea! Buy something that's fun and not too practical. The Vibe's really practical. You don't need another car that can fit everything. Mustang, Mini(constant grins driving these), Miata, or if you can wait, the Solstice, that thing has got to be a blast to drive!

they'd have to be putting out a good bit more power than they currently are for me to seriously look at a scion. Actually, I dont really find either of them terribly attractive.

I agree with Stang on this one. Even though they already have body kits for the Scion.. They need to get to work on the Vibe! ><

they already have body kits for the scions because they have been out in japan for years they just recently came to the US

I'm talking about American kits. The Vibe/Matrix has been living in Japan by the name "Voltz" for some time now as well.

No, actually all three (Vibe, Matrix, Voltz) started at about the same time (within a few months of each other) and I think the Voltz was actually the last of them to hit the market. The Voltz is not nearly as popular in Japan as Toyota had hoped, and they have pulled the plug on it. Looks like we're going to be stuck with the North American aftermarket on this one.

meat,This is exactly what I was thinking about buying before I went with the vibe. I loved the look and size of the colorado - orange of course. But I have to ask you, what do you think of the interior? When I finally did see one in person I was a little disappointed. Either way, good luck with the truck - i'm sure you will love it...

Things are getting pretty hairy over there for you guys right now. Hope and pray that all goes well for you.And I like the look of the new Colorado, too. I may have to check one out and see the interior since it came into question. I could probably change many things about the interior if I really wanted to. Not that I'm really in the market for a new car yet. I think I'll keep the Vibe for a good while and just add to my automotive family when I finally graduate.

well its been awhile...anyways, i was set on getting a chevy colorado, but i just dont think i could afford it. well i could, but id rather not have 2 large car payments. so...i remember the car i always wanted in high school. i love those early (1966-77) ford broncos. so i think i will get one of those and fix it up, maybe put a lift on it and have it be my project. anyone know any info on old ford broncos??? thanks
